OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health to Review Medical Records and Answer Health Questions

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a new health-focused experience inside ChatGPT that lets users connect medical records and wellness apps to receive personalized explanations and insights.

The feature allows users to upload or link health data so ChatGPT can help interpret lab results, summarize medical histories, prepare questions for doctor visits, and offer lifestyle guidance based on connected information. OpenAI positions the tool as an educational assistant, not a replacement for professional medical care.

How ChatGPT Health works

ChatGPT Health supports connections to popular health and wellness platforms, including fitness and nutrition tracking apps. Once linked, users can ask questions that reference their own data, such as trends in lab values or changes in activity levels over time.

The experience runs separately from standard ChatGPT conversations. OpenAI says health chats and records stay isolated from other usage and do not train its core AI models.

Privacy and safety focus

OpenAI emphasizes user control over sensitive data. Users can review stored health information, disconnect linked apps, or delete health data at any time through settings.

The company also stresses clear limits. ChatGPT Health does not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or replace licensed healthcare professionals. OpenAI encourages users to verify insights with doctors, especially when decisions affect care.

Availability and rollout

ChatGPT Health has started rolling out to users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. The initial launch excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom due to regulatory requirements.

OpenAI plans to expand access across web and iOS in the coming weeks as the rollout continues.

Why it matters

Health and wellness questions already represent a major share of ChatGPT usage, with hundreds of millions of related queries each week. By letting users connect personal records, OpenAI aims to move beyond general answers and deliver context-aware explanations that reflect individual data.

The launch also renews debate around AI and healthcare privacy. While OpenAI highlights safeguards and user control, experts continue to urge caution when sharing sensitive medical information with AI tools.

ChatGPT Health marks OpenAI’s most direct step yet into personal health assistance, signaling a broader push to make AI a day-to-day companion for managing complex information, including medical records.

With this also coming after the launch of GPT 5.2, OpenAI is clearly looking to up its game and lead from the front in an industry that promises intense competition this year.
