OnePlus has opened pre bookings for the OnePlus 16, bringing a refreshed design, up to 1 TB of storage and a new illuminated rear panel on one of its color variants.
The phone is currently positioned primarily for the Chinese market, with no indication that OnePlus plans a broader launch across North America or Europe.
Several major specifications have been revealed, while others, including the processor, battery and camera hardware, are still based on reports rather than complete official confirmation.
Tomorrow's Starlight adds an illuminated notification system
OnePlus is offering the phone in three colors named Dark Forest, Martian Masterpiece and Tomorrow's Starlight.
Despite its name, Dark Forest is essentially a black finish, while Martian Masterpiece uses a lighter orange tone.
Tomorrow's Starlight is the most distinctive option.
It uses a silver finish made with a silk glass process designed to reduce visible fingerprints. OnePlus has also integrated a lighting system into the rear panel called the Interstellar Light Effect.
The system includes illuminated sections that can react to different activities.

The lighting can reportedly respond to incoming calls and messages, charging activity and certain game related events.
It gives the rear panel a functional role rather than serving only as decoration.
OnePlus drops the 8 GB RAM configuration
The OnePlus 16 will no longer offer an 8 GB RAM model.
Instead, configurations begin with 12 GB of memory, with 16 GB available at the higher end.
Storage starts at 256 GB and extends to 1 TB.
There is no expandable storage, so the capacity chosen at purchase will remain the phone's maximum internal storage.
This configuration puts the OnePlus 16 firmly in flagship territory, particularly for buyers who want substantial memory and storage for gaming, photography or local applications.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is expected but not confirmed
OnePlus has not yet formally confirmed the processor in the information currently available.
Reports point to Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 as the likely chipset.
Until the company publishes the complete specification sheet, that detail should remain treated as unconfirmed.
If accurate, the processor would place the OnePlus 16 among the highest performance Android phones of its generation.
BOE display reaches up to 185 Hz
The phone uses a BOE X4 display with very narrow bezels.
Its standard maximum refresh rate is listed at 165 Hz, which is already considerably higher than the 120 Hz panels common on many flagship phones.
For supported games, the display can reportedly reach as high as 185 Hz.
The practical benefit will depend on whether individual games can render at sufficiently high frame rates to make use of the panel.
For general use, the higher refresh rate should still contribute to smoother scrolling and interface animations.
Battery capacity could rise to 9,000 mAh
One of the largest rumored upgrades is the battery.
The OnePlus 16 is expected to use a battery with a capacity of around 9,000 mAh, substantially larger than the 7,300 mAh battery used in the previous generation.
If confirmed, that would give the device one of the largest batteries found in a conventional flagship phone.
Charging is expected to include 100 W wired and 50 W wireless support.
Battery life will ultimately depend on display settings, processor efficiency and software optimization, so capacity alone does not determine real world endurance.
Camera system may use two 200 MP sensors
The rear camera system is also expected to receive a major upgrade.
Current reports point to a 200 MP primary camera paired with a 50 MP ultrawide and a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera.
That would give OnePlus unusually high resolution sensors for both the main and zoom cameras.
However, these camera specifications have not yet been fully confirmed by OnePlus.
Sensor size, lens quality, optical stabilization and image processing will also have a significant effect on final camera performance.
International availability remains limited
The biggest limitation may have little to do with the hardware.
The OnePlus 16 appears likely to remain focused on China, reflecting the company's reduced presence in markets such as North America and Europe.
That means buyers outside supported regions may need to rely on imports if a wider release does not materialize.
The OnePlus 16 still brings several notable changes, including higher storage capacities, more memory, a very fast display and a distinctive rear lighting feature.
Its strongest specifications remain partly dependent on unconfirmed reports, but the official design and configuration details already show that OnePlus is continuing to push its flagship line toward higher performance and more distinctive hardware.
