Mojang has revealed the next Minecraft Game Drop, with the upcoming update focusing on ice and snow while introducing new underground areas, hostile mobs, throwable items, and potion mechanics.
The update does not have an official name yet, but its biggest addition is Ice Caves. These rare underground cave systems will appear beneath cold biomes and feature glowing ice crystals that can be used as light sources.
The new areas will also introduce additional dangers, including Frozen Zombies that can apply a freezing effect to players.

Ice Caves will appear beneath cold biomes
Ice Caves are described as rare natural underground systems that can generate below colder Minecraft biomes.
These caves will contain glowing ice crystals, giving players a new source of natural light while exploring underground.
The update appears designed to make cold regions more interesting beneath the surface, rather than limiting their identity to snow and ice above ground.
Mojang has not yet explained how large Ice Caves can become, how frequently they will generate, or whether the glowing crystals can be collected and placed elsewhere.

Frozen Zombies introduce a new freezing threat
Frozen Zombies are one of the main hostile mobs being added with the update.
They can appear across snowy biomes and use melee attacks that apply a freezing effect to players.
The effect can stack, and enough accumulated freezing can cause the player to become frozen.
Frozen Zombies also have a ranged attack.
Unlike ordinary snowballs, they can throw Ice Balls that both deal damage and knock players backward.
This gives the new zombie variant more combat options than a standard zombie and could make snowy areas more dangerous to explore.
Regular zombies can transform in powder snow
Existing zombies will also interact with the new system.
Once the update is available, regular zombies exposed to powder snow can transform into Frozen Zombies.
That gives the new mob a second way to appear beyond natural spawning.
The mechanic also adds another environmental interaction to powder snow, which already presents hazards for players and mobs.
Ice Balls can be crafted and used in potions
Ice Balls will not be limited to Frozen Zombie attacks.
Players will also be able to craft them manually.
They can be thrown as projectiles and can also serve as an ingredient for a new potion that applies a freezing effect.
The source does not provide the full crafting recipe for Ice Balls or the potion, so those details remain unconfirmed.
It is also unclear how long the freezing potion lasts or whether its effect changes depending on potion strength.
Testing begins before the full 2026 launch
The new Game Drop is expected to arrive sometime in 2026.

Minecraft’s real world expansion is also growing
Alongside the game update, Mojang shared more information about Minecraft themed attractions planned for the UK.
The first Minecraft Hotel is scheduled to open at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in 2027.
A Minecraft rollercoaster at the same location will be called Escape the Nether.
These announcements follow the previously revealed Minecraft World theme park space, which is also planned to open in the UK in 2027.
For the game itself, however, the immediate focus is the next 2026 Game Drop, with Ice Caves and Frozen Zombies providing the main new reasons to explore Minecraft’s coldest regions.
