Minecraft’s next update has been revealed, and it is shaping up to be a strong release for builders and explorers. Mojang has shown a new biome called the Dappled Forest, along with Poplar wood, wool stairs, wool slabs, Abandoned Camps, and what appears to be a new straw bed item.
Before that update arrives, Minecraft will first get Chaos Cubed on June 16, 2026. That update has already been in testing and includes Sulfur Cubes, Sulfur Cave biomes, and geysers. The newly revealed update does not have an official name yet, but Mojang has shared enough details to show where it is heading.
The biggest addition is the Dappled Forest. This biome is inspired by autumn forests, with red, orange, yellow, and pink toned leaves that give it a warmer look than most existing Minecraft forests. Mojang says the team took inspiration from places such as Michigan and Sweden, which explains the mix of colorful trees and natural woodland atmosphere.
The biome will also include red shrubs. These shrubs will stay red even when placed outside the Dappled Forest, which should make them useful for builders who want more control over color in gardens, paths, parks, and decorative outdoor builds.
A new biome also means new building blocks. The Dappled Forest introduces Poplar wood, which has a warm gray tone. That should make it useful beside stone, Pale Oak, and other lighter blocks. The Poplar door design may become one of the most popular parts of the set because it includes diamond shaped window details inspired by Swedish architecture.

Abandoned Camps are another interesting addition. Mojang is not treating them as simple loot structures. Instead, they are meant to make players wonder who was there before and what happened to them. That kind of environmental storytelling could help Minecraft’s world feel more lived in without forcing a direct story on players.
For builders, wool stairs and wool slabs may be the most exciting reveal. Players have wanted these blocks for years because wool is widely used for carpets, furniture, tents, roofs, and colorful interior design. Adding stairs and slabs gives builders more shape options and should make soft decorative builds much easier.
Straw beds have also appeared online, although they were not officially confirmed during the presentation. Based on early details, they seem to work as temporary beds that let you sleep through the night without resetting your spawn point. That could be useful for exploration, especially when you do not want to overwrite your main base spawn.
The update is still early in development, so Mojang may add more features before testing begins later this summer. That also means some details could change before release. Still, the current list already gives the update a clear identity: it is focused on exploration, atmosphere, and better building tools.
Minecraft updates are often strongest when they add small features that players can use in many ways. The Dappled Forest gives explorers a new place to find, while Poplar wood, red shrubs, wool stairs, and wool slabs give builders more creative choices. If Mojang expands the update carefully, this could become one of the more useful building focused releases in recent years.
