Minecraft is finally adding sitting with new Cushion item in upcoming test update

Minecraft is finally getting an official sitting feature, removing the need for tricks, glitches, or mods just to make a character rest in place. Mojang is now testing the feature through new preview and snapshot builds, giving players an early look at one of the smaller but long requested additions coming in the next content update.

The feature arrives through a new item called the Cushion. Once placed on any flat surface, the Cushion lets players sit down directly in the base game. It may sound like a minor addition compared to new biomes, mobs, or combat systems, but sitting has been one of those simple social features players have wanted for years. Until now, many players relied on awkward workarounds, command tricks, or mods to create the same effect.

The Cushion is crafted using three Wool Slabs, and Mojang is testing 16 color variations. That should make it easy to fit the item into different builds, homes, meeting spaces, roleplay areas, and multiplayer servers. Since Minecraft is as much a social sandbox as it is a survival game, a proper sitting feature could make player made spaces feel more natural.

Cushions and Straw Beds give Minecraft more practical resting options

Mojang is also adding Straw Beds, a new early game sleeping option. Unlike normal beds, Straw Beds are designed as temporary items. They can be used to skip the night, but they do not change your respawn point. They are also one time use, which makes them better suited for travel, exploration, or outdoor projects rather than permanent bases.

Crafting them should be simple early in a world. Three hay bales produce four Straw Beds, making them a cheap tool for players who want to avoid night dangers without accidentally moving their home spawn point.

The Straw Bed is a smart addition because it solves a common problem. In Minecraft, using a normal bed while traveling can reset your respawn point, which is not always what you want. If you are far from home and only need to skip the night, a temporary bed gives you more control. It also fits the survival loop because it feels like a lightweight camping item rather than full bedroom furniture.

Both features are now available in Minecraft Bedrock Edition Preview 26.40.30 and Java Edition 26.3 Snapshot 3. Players who want to test early builds can try them before the full update arrives, although features may still change based on feedback.

Mojang has not yet confirmed the final name or release date for this content drop. The update was previously teased alongside the Dappled Forest biome, which is expected to be part of Minecraft’s third content release of the year. Since testing has only just begun, more additions may appear before launch.

The sitting feature may not change Minecraft’s core gameplay, but it adds something players have asked for since the game’s early years. For builders, roleplayers, and multiplayer communities, Cushions could quickly become a common part of homes, taverns, villages, and shared spaces. Straw Beds, meanwhile, give survival players a useful travel tool that avoids the problems of normal beds.

Together, these additions show Mojang focusing on small quality of life features that make Minecraft feel more complete. Sitting is finally becoming an official part of the game, and for many longtime players, that alone will make this update memorable.
