February 4 Gives METRO 2039 Some Space
The February release date places METRO 2039 ahead of several other major games scheduled for the same month.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is due on February 12, God of War Laufey on February 16, Persona 4 Revival on February 18, and Fable on February 23.
Releasing on February 4 gives 4A Games a short period before those titles arrive.
The beginning of 2027 is still busy, however.
Stranger Than Heaven is scheduled for January 15, while Until Dawn 2 is expected on January 28.
That means METRO 2039 will arrive only one week after another large PlayStation release.
4K 60fps With Ray Tracing Is the Main Technical Target
The new gameplay demonstration was captured on PlayStation 5 Pro.
More importantly, the accompanying information says the regular PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will also target 4K resolution and 60fps while using ray tracing.
That is an ambitious combination for current console hardware.
The supplied information does not explain whether 4K refers to native resolution or an internally lower resolution reconstructed to 4K.
It also does not detail how extensive the ray tracing implementation will be.
PlayStation 5 Pro may offer additional visual improvements or more stable performance, but those differences have not yet been specified.
No comparable technical details were provided for Xbox Series S.
The New Game Returns to Moscow
METRO 2039 returns the series to Moscow and its underground environments while introducing a new protagonist.
4A Games has described the project as drawing from ideas used throughout the franchise rather than following only one previous entry.

That means elements associated with Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, and Metro Exodus are expected to influence the new game.
The developers have previously indicated that the project aims to create a new experience while maintaining the survival focused atmosphere that defined earlier Metro games.
4A Games Is Developing the Title During Difficult Conditions
Much of 4A Games' development team remains based in Ukraine.
The studio has continued developing METRO 2039 while dealing with the effects of the ongoing war, creating unusual production challenges for a large scale game.
Despite those conditions, the project has now reached the stage where 4A Games is showing extended gameplay and committing to a specific release date.
The game has also attracted attention for its visual presentation, which was recognized during Gamescom 2026.
February Is Becoming One of 2027's Busiest Months
METRO 2039's February 4 date places it at the front of a dense release schedule.
That positioning could help the game avoid direct launch day competition with several other major titles, although players will still face a concentrated period of releases throughout the month.
For 4A Games, the more important detail is that the project now has a firm date rather than a broad February window.
METRO 2039 is scheduled to arrive on February 4, 2027, with PC and current generation console versions launching together and 4K, 60fps, and ray tracing confirmed as targets for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
