Lords of the Fallen 2 Delayed to Early 2027 as CI Games Avoids a Crowded 2026 Release Window

Lords of the Fallen 2 will no longer release in 2026, with CI Games moving the dark fantasy action RPG into the first quarter of 2027. The delay gives the development team more time to refine the game while also avoiding a packed holiday release schedule that includes Grand Theft Auto VI.

CI Games said the decision followed continued feedback from its Gameplay Feedback Team, a group of experienced Soulslike players working with the studio’s wider creative group. Their input reportedly identified areas where the game can be improved before launch.

The new release window is broad, so there is no exact date yet. February 2027 is already becoming crowded with several major releases, which could make March a more likely option, although that remains unconfirmed.

More Development Time Will Be Used to Improve the Game

The studio says Lords of the Fallen 2 is still receiving a positive response following recent gameplay reveals. However, the team believes extra development time will help it deliver a stronger final experience.

Delays are often disappointing, but they can be important for action RPGs that depend on responsive combat, balanced enemies, stable performance, meaningful character progression, and carefully designed bosses. A Soulslike game can quickly lose player trust if its difficulty feels unfair because of technical problems or unclear systems.

CI Games appears to be using the delay to address feedback while making sure the game does not launch before it is ready. The developer has not detailed which areas are being changed, but further updates are expected in the coming months.

GTA VI Has Made the 2026 Holiday Season Harder to Navigate

The delay also gives Lords of the Fallen 2 more room away from an unusually competitive part of the calendar. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release in November 2026, and many publishers are expected to avoid launching large games near it.

A major release of that size can dominate sales charts, media coverage, streaming platforms, and social media attention for weeks. Smaller publishers face a difficult decision: launch before it, risk being overlooked, or move to another release period.

The final months of 2026 were already filled with major games before GTA VI’s release date became clear. That made it harder for a game without a fixed date to find a safe window, especially when developers still need time for testing and polish.

Early 2027 Is Not Empty Either

Moving to 2027 does not guarantee an easy launch. Several high profile games are already expected early next year, and more publishers may shift their releases out of 2026 for the same reason.

Still, the first quarter gives CI Games more flexibility. The team can choose a date that gives Lords of the Fallen 2 space between other releases, while also using the extra months to improve the game.

Lords of the Fallen 2 is the next entry in CI Games’ Soulslike series. The studio has promised a darker fantasy setting, challenging combat, and a more refined experience than previous games. Its delay means players will need to wait longer, but the additional development time could be important for a game competing in one of the most demanding action RPG genres.
