Kyty PS5 Emulator Can Now Run Two 3D Games at Around 30 FPS

PlayStation 5 emulation has reached another early milestone, with the Kyty emulator now able to run two 3D games with active player input and frame rates approaching 30 FPS.

The progress remains experimental, and neither game offers a polished experience. However, both demonstrations show that Kyty has moved beyond loading screens and basic graphics tests into real gameplay.

XIII, the 2020 remake of the cel shaded shooter, can now run at up to 30 FPS. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Wrath of the Mutants also reaches gameplay at around 22 to 24 FPS.

These are relatively lightweight titles compared with the largest PS5 releases, but running them at interactive frame rates remains an important technical step for an emulator at this stage of development.

XIII Runs at 30 FPS With Visual Problems

XIII currently provides the higher frame rate of the two tested games. It accepts controller input and allows real time gameplay at roughly 30 FPS.

The game still has visible rendering problems. Parts of its environments and textures do not display correctly, creating broken scenes and inconsistent image quality. These issues prevent it from matching the experience available on original hardware.

The title’s stylized graphics may also present unique challenges. Although XIII is not especially demanding, its cel shaded presentation still depends on effects and rendering behavior that an emulator must reproduce accurately.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Wrath of the Mutants performs at a lower frame rate, generally staying between 22 and 24 FPS. The game reportedly crashes during its first launch, but it becomes stable after being restarted.

Unlike XIII, the TMNT game does not appear to suffer from the same major visual errors once it is running. Its frame rate is visibly uneven, but the game remains responsive enough to demonstrate real progress.

Kyty and SharpEmu Are Following Different Paths

Kyty is currently showing faster progress in game compatibility, but it is not the only PS5 emulator under active development.

SharpEmu is concentrating more heavily on low level accuracy, internal systems, and supporting infrastructure. That approach may produce fewer immediate gameplay demonstrations, but it could solve broader technical problems that affect many games.

Some titles, including Astro Bot, remain blocked by fundamental compatibility issues rather than simple performance limitations. Fixing those systems may require extensive work on graphics processing, memory behavior, operating system functions, and other parts of the PS5 architecture.

Kyty has already demonstrated that GTA 5 can reach an early booting state, although that does not mean the game is close to being playable. Loading a title and running it reliably are very different stages of emulator development.

The recent demonstrations also do not suggest that demanding PS5 exclusives will become fully playable soon. Larger games use more advanced graphics features, heavier CPU workloads, and complex platform services that can expose weaknesses not visible in smaller projects.

PS5 Emulation Still Has Major Limitations

Early emulators often require powerful PC hardware while delivering performance below the original console. Frame rates, graphics accuracy, audio, controller support, saves, and stability can vary significantly between games.

Compatibility may also change between emulator builds. A title that works in one version could develop new problems after another part of the emulator is updated.

You also need legally obtained game files and system data where required. Downloading commercial PS5 games from unauthorized sources remains piracy, regardless of whether the emulator itself is free.

Despite those limitations, running two 3D games with real input at approximately 30 FPS is a meaningful step. Kyty is beginning to demonstrate practical gameplay rather than isolated technical tests.

The next challenge will be improving rendering accuracy, reducing crashes, and extending support to more demanding titles. SharpEmu and other independent projects may also contribute important technical work, even when their progress is less visible through playable demonstrations.
