Intel has unveiled its Core Ultra Series 3 processors at CES 2026, marking one of the company’s most consequential PC chip launches in years. Codenamed Panther Lake, the new lineup anchors Intel’s strategy to reclaim performance leadership and position itself at the center of the fast-growing AI PC market.
A new platform built on Intel 18A
Core Ultra Series 3 becomes the first consumer PC platform manufactured on Intel’s 18A process, the company’s most advanced node to date. Intel designed 18A to deliver higher performance per watt and improved transistor density, two areas where the chipmaker has struggled against rivals in recent generations.
Intel executives framed the launch as a turning point for its in-house manufacturing roadmap, signaling renewed confidence in internal fabs rather than reliance on external foundries.
AI takes center stage
The new chips place a heavy emphasis on on-device AI. Core Ultra Series 3 processors integrate a dedicated Neural Processing Unit capable of up to 50 TOPS, enabling local execution of AI workloads such as real-time image enhancement, speech processing, and emerging Copilot-style features.
Intel positions the platform as a foundational building block for the next wave of “AI PCs,” where workloads shift from the cloud to the device for lower latency and better privacy.
Graphics and performance gains
Intel pairs the new CPUs with Arc Xe³ integrated graphics, promising substantial gains for light gaming and creative tasks without a discrete GPU. Some configurations feature up to 12 GPU cores, targeting thin-and-light laptops that still need strong visual performance.
Across CPU tasks, Intel claims major generational improvements over previous Core Ultra chips, alongside meaningful efficiency gains designed to extend battery life in mobile systems.
Broad OEM rollout
Intel says more than 200 laptop designs from major PC makers will ship with Core Ultra Series 3 processors, covering mainstream notebooks, premium ultrabooks, gaming laptops, and even handheld gaming devices. Systems are expected to reach retail channels starting in late January.
The company also highlighted interest from partners exploring Panther Lake for edge and embedded devices, expanding the platform’s reach beyond traditional PCs.
Competitive pressure intensifies
The launch arrives as competition in the AI PC space heats up. AMD, Nvidia, and Qualcomm all continue to push AI-focused silicon, raising the stakes for Intel’s comeback attempt.
Industry analysts view Core Ultra Series 3 as a critical test of whether Intel can translate manufacturing progress and AI ambition into real-world performance wins.

Intel plans to follow Panther Lake with additional AI-centric platforms over the next year, while scaling 18A production across more product lines. The success of Core Ultra Series 3 in shipping systems will likely shape Intel’s competitive position in the PC market through 2026 and beyond.
