Take Two has confirmed that GTA Online will continue receiving support after Grand Theft Auto 6 launches, suggesting Rockstar is not preparing to replace the current online game immediately.
The publisher reiterated during its September 17 shareholder meeting that GTA 6 is launching as a single player title. It also said support for GTA Online will continue after GTA 6 arrives and will extend beyond the launch period.
That statement does not confirm when a new GTA 6 online experience will arrive, or even what form it will eventually take. However, it does make clear that Rockstar plans to keep its existing multiplayer platform active while the new single player game enters the market.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
GTA Online is not being retired with GTA 6
The current GTA Online remains one of Rockstar's longest running products. It originally launched shortly after Grand Theft Auto 5 and has since received years of new missions, vehicles, businesses, events, and other updates.
Take Two's latest comments suggest that this established platform will remain part of Rockstar's plans even after GTA 6 becomes available.

This creates a different situation from the original transition between GTA 5 and GTA Online.
Rockstar introduced GTA Online shortly after GTA 5 launched, but the current game has now grown into a large standalone ecosystem with an established player base and long term revenue model. Replacing it immediately would therefore be a much more complicated decision.
Rockstar has said little about the next GTA Online
There has been widespread expectation that GTA 6 will eventually receive some form of online component, but Rockstar and Take Two have provided almost no concrete details.

That leaves several possibilities open.
Rockstar could introduce a GTA 6 based multiplayer mode sometime after the single player launch. It could also develop a separate GTA Online product that runs alongside the existing version for a period of time.
Some fans have suggested that the next GTA Online could even launch as a standalone paid release rather than being included automatically with GTA 6.
Those ideas remain speculation. There is currently no confirmed price, release window, business model, or official name for a GTA 6 related online game.
A separate launch would give Rockstar more flexibility
Launching the online component later would give Rockstar additional time to focus on GTA 6's single player release before moving attention toward multiplayer.
It could also allow the studio to continue generating revenue from the current GTA Online while building a more substantial successor.
A separate launch would not be unusual for Rockstar. GTA Online originally arrived after GTA 5, and Red Dead Online also launched after Red Dead Redemption 2.
The difference this time is the scale and longevity of the existing GTA Online platform.
Rockstar now has to decide how to move millions of existing players, years of content, and a mature virtual economy into whatever comes next.
Keeping the current version alive after GTA 6 launches gives the company more time to make that transition without immediately shutting down or replacing a service that remains commercially important.
For now, players buying GTA 6 in November should expect the new game to arrive as a single player experience, while the existing GTA Online continues operating separately. Any successor appears likely to come later, but Rockstar has not yet said when that will happen or how it will be sold.
