Grim Dawn Fangs of Asterkarn launches on PC July 23, but Xbox release is unclear

Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn finally has a release date. Crate Entertainment has confirmed that the long awaited expansion will launch on July 23, 2026, for PC through Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store. The expansion is being described as the biggest add on yet for the action RPG, but Xbox players have one concern: there is currently no updated word on the Xbox One version.

That missing Xbox detail matters because Fangs of Asterkarn was previously expected to launch on Xbox One at the same time as PC. The expansion was first announced in August 2023 with a planned 2024 release, but development took much longer than expected. Now that the PC date is confirmed, console players are still waiting to learn whether they will receive the expansion on the same day, later, or not at all.

Fangs of Asterkarn is being positioned as Grim Dawn’s largest and final major expansion

Crate is treating Fangs of Asterkarn as a major sendoff for Grim Dawn, which originally launched in 2016 and has remained active for more than a decade. The new region is said to be double the size of previous expansions, giving players a large new area to explore.

The expansion also adds the Berserker mastery, built around shapeshifting, which should open new build options for players who enjoy experimenting with Grim Dawn’s class combinations. Another major addition is Ascendant mode, which turns the entire campaign into an endgame style proving ground for advanced builds.

The expansion’s scope is large. Crate says it will include more than 251 unique items, over 25 item sets, more than 1,800 item skill modifiers, more than 128 monster infrequents, over 60 bosses, 8 Nemesis bosses, 3 superbosses, more than 42 quests, and over 54 secrets. It also adds more than 90 Awakened Epics and 6,210 potion combinations.

Potion customization is one of the more interesting new systems. Players will be able to alter potions to match their playstyle, turning them into simple survival tools or sources of unique buffs and effects. Affix Transmutation will also let players reroll rare and magic items, giving them more control over gear refinement.

Epic items are getting a new layer too. They can now be Awakened, unlocking stronger potential. For players who enjoy long term build crafting, these systems should add more reasons to keep farming and experimenting after the story content is finished.

The Shattered Realm is also expanding with more regions and boss arenas. The Crucible will receive 30 extra waves, although players will need the Crucible DLC to access that content. Crate is also planning two new roguelike dungeons as free content updates after the expansion launches.

Alongside Fangs of Asterkarn, Grim Dawn will receive a free 1.3 patch. That update will overhaul the user interface, expand the player stash, add detailed item tooltips, introduce WASD accessibility controls, and include HDR lighting improvements.

For PC players, July 23 is now the date to watch. For Xbox players, the silence is disappointing. Fangs of Asterkarn looks like a major final chapter for Grim Dawn, but Crate still needs to clarify whether console players will be part of that launch.
