System Shock 2 Remaster updates the 1999 classic
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is a modernized version of the influential sci fi survival horror game originally released in 1999.
The remaster was developed by Nightdive Studios and brings the game to modern hardware with updated visuals and improvements intended to smooth out some of the original release’s rougher edges.
Co op support is also available.
The game takes place aboard the derelict starship Von Braun, where you explore the vessel deck by deck while discovering what happened to the crew.
The setting remains one of the game’s central strengths, combining environmental storytelling, exploration, combat, and survival horror elements.
Buried Stars focuses on a murder mystery
The second free game, Buried Stars, takes a very different approach.
It is a visual novel centered around a survival audition show that ends in disaster when the studio building collapses.
The surviving contestants and crew become trapped beneath the wreckage, and the situation becomes more dangerous when a murder takes place among them.
You investigate what happened by speaking with other characters, gathering clues, and following information through the game’s fictional social media system.
The story also deals with themes related to idol culture and toxic behavior on social media.
Sanity management is part of the investigation
Buried Stars does not rely only on dialogue choices.
You also need to manage the protagonist’s mental state while trying to understand the events unfolding around the trapped group.

The combination of character interactions, social media clues, and psychological pressure gives the game a different structure from a conventional detective adventure.
Its central questions revolve around who committed the murder, why it happened, and how the people involved are connected.
The giveaway runs until October 8
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster and Buried Stars can both be claimed for free until October 8.
After the deadline, the store is expected to rotate in a new set of free PC games as part of its regular weekly promotion.
The giveaway is separate from the mobile promotions available through the Epic Games Store on Android and iOS, which continue to offer their own weekly free titles.
For this week, PC players can choose between a remastered sci fi survival horror classic and a story driven murder mystery, or simply claim both before the October 8 deadline.
