Disney has shown a Steam Deck being used as a portable controller for an Olaf animatronic, highlighting another professional use for Valve’s handheld beyond playing games.
The device appeared in a video about the work of Walt Disney Imagineering. At around the 2 minute and 20 second mark, an Imagineer can be seen holding a Steam Deck while operating the character.
The handheld’s screen displays a Walt Disney Imagineering background, an identifier for the connected animatronic, and several applications on the desktop. The interface suggests that the device is still running SteamOS rather than a completely different operating system.
Disney did not provide a technical explanation of the software, connection method, or controls used. The short appearance still offers a clear look at how a consumer gaming handheld can be adapted for testing and operating complex entertainment hardware.
Steam Deck Works as a Portable Linux Computer
The Steam Deck is primarily sold as a handheld gaming system, but its hardware and software allow it to operate like a compact personal computer.
