When we launched Digital Citizen on October 15, 2015, we used a rather generic motto: “Digital Citizen - Life in a digital world!” Many readers overlooked it, as it appeared only in the title bar of their web browser or in Google search results, when looking for how-to content online. Looking back, it wasn’t the best choice; this motto did a poor job of describing what we do at Digital Citizen. For this reason, we decided to change it. If you’re interested in learning more about our new site motto and the reasons behind our choice, read this brief article:
Our new site motto: Digital Citizen - Technology explained by people!
One aspect that frustrates us about the modern web is how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become embedded in many areas of the internet. This has led to some concerning trends:- Google’s AI Overviews are killing independent publishers, like us, by providing direct answers using information from our content, without linking back or recommending users to access the source content.
- The amount of content created by AI is steadily increasing in Google’s top 20 search results, which means people are getting access to less and less original content created by humans.
Digital Citizen - Technology explained by people
We believe that this new motto conveys better what we do, emphasizing that when you read or watch content made by us, you access information created by a fellow person who worked hard to deliver it. I hope this motto will help us stand out in a crowded web where content created by AI is becoming increasingly commonplace.
