Cut Resident Evil Voice Lines Reveal More About Leon, the Merchant and Requiem's Infected

More than 1,000 unused voice lines from Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Requiem have surfaced through community data mining, revealing abandoned dialogue, character details and ideas that never reached the finished games.

Community modder Keff0 recently shared two collections of unused audio. More than 600 lines were reportedly found in Resident Evil 4 Remake, while almost 400 came from Resident Evil Requiem.

The material ranges from simple combat sounds to dialogue that could have added more context to Leon Kennedy, the Merchant and Requiem's infected enemies.

Resident Evil 4 had a stronger Merchant connection to Village

One of the most notable unused Resident Evil 4 lines comes from the Merchant.

In the removed dialogue, he refers to The Duke, the merchant character from Resident Evil Village, and appears to recognise him. That would have strengthened an existing connection between the two characters.

Resident Evil Village already included a reference in the opposite direction. The Duke occasionally repeats the Resident Evil 4 Merchant's familiar sales phrase before explaining that it was something an old friend used to say.

The newly discovered line suggests the developers considered making that connection more explicit.

Other unused material also indicates that the Resident Evil 4 Merchant may once have been vulnerable to the player. Cut animations reportedly include a death sequence for the character, suggesting that killing him may have been possible during an earlier stage of development.

That idea did not survive into the final version.

Requiem's infected could have sounded even more human

The cut Resident Evil Requiem audio focuses heavily on the game's infected enemies.

Requiem already presents infected characters as retaining fragments of their former lives. Some repeat familiar activities, including cleaning, eating and singing, while others can be heard crying or speaking.

The unused lines would apparently have pushed this concept further.

Burning infected enemies could have begged for water and reacted verbally to the pain. A large infected character known as Chunk reportedly had unused dialogue in which he expressed fear of dying and complained about being stressed.

Some infected characters could even have thanked the player after being killed.

These lines suggest that the developers experimented with making enemies appear more aware of their condition, although the material was ultimately removed.

Leon had additional dialogue about surviving

Leon Kennedy also has a large number of unused lines across the discovered files. Many are simple reactions, combat sounds or jokes, including several comments involving spiders.

One line from Requiem stands out because it gives more insight into his state of mind late in the game.

Leon says that he promises to make it home.

The line appears during a period when he is already suffering from infection and the effects of repeated encounters with powerful enemies. It suggests that an earlier version of his dialogue placed slightly more emphasis on his desire to survive and move forward.

The removed audio does not necessarily represent final story canon. Cut dialogue can come from abandoned scenes, earlier scripts, placeholder ideas or mechanics that changed during production.

Even so, the material offers a useful look at how both games evolved. Some concepts, such as the Merchant's connection to The Duke and the infected retaining more human awareness, appear to have been explored in greater detail before being reduced or removed from the final releases.
