Pearl Abyss has released the Charting the Unknown expansion for Crimson Desert, introducing a massive ocean region, underwater exploration, shipbuilding, and several new gameplay systems.
The DLC became available on October 29, 2026, alongside update version 2.04.00, and costs $24.99.
The expansion significantly increases the amount of explorable territory, adding an ocean that players report is larger than the original landmass. New islands, underwater environments, naval encounters, and trading activities provide additional opportunities for exploration.
Beyond the ocean, the update expands the game's housing, relationship, business management, and combat systems.
Crimson Desert Adds Ocean Exploration and Naval Battles
The expansion introduces an ocean region containing islands, underwater locations, and maritime activities.
Players can unlock ocean exploration through a quest called A Wider World, which becomes available after completing Howling Hill and expanding the Greymane camp.
Once unlocked, players can obtain ships by purchasing them from fleetmasters or constructing them through dispatch missions.
Ships can also be customized using purchased components, while maritime trading introduces additional goods and opportunities to earn resources.
New treasure maps encourage exploration by directing players toward hidden rewards scattered across the expanded world.
Early player reports also describe dynamic battles between NPC naval factions. Players can reportedly participate in these encounters and use dragons to attack enemy ships from above.
Underwater exploration introduces a separate set of mechanics, including a breath gauge that limits how long characters can remain submerged.
Upgrading diving equipment increases underwater endurance, while additional equipment allows the A.T.A.G. armored machine to operate beneath the surface.
Players can also register certain underwater creatures as mounts after gaining their Trust through feeding or subduing them.
Marriage, Housing, and Businesses Receive Major Updates
Charting the Unknown introduces additional customization and relationship features.
The housing system now supports more detailed construction, allowing players to modify layouts and place structural elements such as walls and windows.
The expansion adds 17 residences and two castles that can be decorated.
Liberated strongholds can also accommodate businesses, including restaurants, sawmills, smithies, and tailor shops.

These establishments continue operating while players are away.
Relationship progression now includes an additional Trust level, with marriage becoming available once a character reaches 100 Trust and the relevant relationship requirements are satisfied.
Spouses can move into designated residences, accompany players during exploration, and occasionally provide gifts.
Camp festivals introduce further social activities and opportunities to recruit visitors as Honorary Greymanes.
New Combat Challenges and PC Graphics Options
Players seeking more demanding battles can access the Garden of Trials after completing the main story quest Journey's End.
The activity includes ten challenge groups and allows players to assemble a team of up to three playable characters.
Participants can determine the order in which characters enter combat, with another character taking over when the previous one is defeated.
Food based healing is disabled during these challenges, increasing their difficulty.
Completing challenge groups improves existing skills, while new bosses and equipment expand the available combat content.
Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane also receive individual quests that become available after Journey's End.
On PC, the update introduces greater flexibility for graphics settings by allowing upscaling and frame generation technologies to be selected independently.
This includes the option to combine NVIDIA DLSS upscaling with AMD FSR Frame Generation.
One important restriction concerns save compatibility. Pearl Abyss warns that save files created with Charting the Unknown installed cannot be loaded or transferred into a version of Crimson Desert without the DLC.
With its expanded map and additional gameplay systems, Charting the Unknown provides substantial new content for players returning to Crimson Desert or continuing their existing adventures.
