A Core i9 13900K appeared to reach 155°C while drawing only 93W during Cyberpunk 2077, but the alarming figure was almost certainly caused by faulty monitoring software rather than a genuine cooling failure.
The reading was shared by a PC owner who saw the processor temperature displayed at 155°C. That would be far beyond the normal operating limit of the chip and high enough to suggest an immediate hardware emergency.
However, the processor would not normally remain active at that temperature. Intel designed the Core i9 13900K to begin reducing performance when it approaches its thermal limit of around 100°C. If temperatures continued rising despite those safeguards, the system would shut down before reaching a level such as 155°C.
The more likely explanation is that the monitoring overlay displayed 155°F while labelling the value as Celsius. A temperature of 155°F converts to about 68.3°C, which is reasonable for a Core i9 13900K drawing 93W during a game.

The processor would throttle before reaching 155°C

How to check whether a CPU temperature is real

Start by checking the value in another monitoring program. The motherboard BIOS can also provide a basic temperature reading, although the processor will usually be under a much lighter load there.
Look at the reported power draw and clock speed at the same time. A processor showing an extreme temperature with modest power use and normal clock behaviour may indicate an incorrect sensor reading.
You should also watch for physical signs of a real thermal problem. These include sudden performance drops, loud cooling fans, repeated shutdowns, crashes and temperatures that rise rapidly after starting a workload.
In this case, the combination of a 155°C reading, 93W power consumption and an active gaming session strongly suggests a monitoring error. The Core i9 13900K can be difficult to cool, but it would normally throttle or shut down long before reaching the displayed figure.
