CONTROL Resonant Could Take Up to 50 Hours to Fully Complete

CONTROL Resonant will be the longest game Remedy Entertainment has made, with a main playthrough expected to last about 30 hours and a completionist run reaching as much as 50 hours.

That makes the sequel considerably larger than the original Control. Players who completed most of the first game’s activities could usually finish it in less than 30 hours, while CONTROL Resonant is designed to offer a much broader experience.

The increase in length is partly connected to the game’s move into action role playing territory. Remedy is expanding its usual action focused structure with additional exploration, optional missions, and character progression systems that can keep players in its world for much longer.

Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov said the 30 hour estimate applies to the main experience. Players who search for optional content, complete side activities, and explore more carefully may spend closer to 50 hours with the game.

World Quests will expand the main story

One of the main additions is a system called World Quests. These optional missions will appear as players explore a heavily altered version of Manhattan.

The city is expected to contain unusual environments shaped by the supernatural forces associated with the Control series. World Quests should give players reasons to leave the main route, investigate unfamiliar areas, and learn more about the people and events surrounding the story.

This structure may also help Remedy create a more flexible pace. Players focused on the central narrative can move through the game in about 30 hours, while those interested in exploration and completion will have significantly more content available.

PlaystyleEstimated duration
Main story focusedAround 30 hours
Main story with optional contentMore than 30 hours
Completionist playthroughUp to 50 hours
Original Control completionist runLess than 30 hours

The longer duration does not necessarily mean that the main story itself has been stretched. Much of the additional time appears to come from optional quests, exploration, and the wider systems expected from an action role playing game.

Combat takes inspiration from fast Japanese action games

CONTROL Resonant will place a stronger focus on melee combat than the original game. Mohov said the development team studied several fast paced Japanese action titles while designing its combat systems.

The influences include games from the Devil May Cry series and titles developed by PlatinumGames. These references helped the team examine how responsive movement, attack combinations, enemy behaviour, and close range combat can work together.

Remedy is not trying to copy one specific game. The studio is using ideas from several projects while adapting them to CONTROL Resonant’s own mechanics, setting, and visual identity.

That distinction is important because Control has always combined supernatural abilities, unusual environments, and physics based destruction. A melee focused sequel still needs to feel connected to that foundation rather than becoming a standard character action game.

The longer structure could give players more time to learn and develop its combat systems. Action role playing games often introduce new abilities, equipment, and enemy types gradually, allowing the experience to become more complex over time.

Remedy is preparing its largest game for September

CONTROL Resonant is scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

Its release will place it in a crowded period for major games. Remedy is continuing to reveal more details as launch approaches, including its combat design, technical features, world structure, and expected length.

A 50 hour completion estimate makes CONTROL Resonant a much larger commitment than the first game. It also suggests that Remedy wants the sequel to offer enough optional content for players who enjoy exploring every part of its strange version of Manhattan.

The main story should remain manageable at around 30 hours, while World Quests and other activities will provide a longer route for completionists. That balance could help the game serve both players who want a focused campaign and those who prefer a deeper, more demanding experience.
