The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta has been extended by several hours, giving players more time to unlock limited rewards before the test ends.
The beta was originally expected to close earlier on September 1, but the final shutdown time was moved to 10 PM PT on September 1, which is 1 AM ET on September 2. Double XP and Double Weapon XP remain active until the beta closes.
The extension gives players another chance to reach reward milestones, test multiplayer modes, and provide more gameplay data before the full release arrives in October.

Extra Time Could Help With the Hardest Beta Rewards
Modern Warfare 4's beta includes several rewards tied to progression and performance.
A Beta Operator Skin becomes available at Level 20, while a weapon blueprint unlocks at Level 30. There are also smaller rewards such as emblems and weapon charms.
One of the more demanding rewards is a hidden weapon camo that requires 1,500 player kills during the beta period. That target is based on kills rather than eliminations, so reaching it requires a significant amount of playtime.
The extension is particularly useful for players who were close to those milestones when the original end time approached.
The Beta Includes New Maps and Modes
The test has given players an early look at several parts of Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer.
That includes the dynamic Kill Block map, the Hijack and Inflation modes, and a first look at the latest version of Ground War.
The beta also introduced Zodiac, a new Resurgence map planned for Call of Duty: Warzone as part of Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 content.
These tests give the development teams more information about weapon performance, map flow, matchmaking, and overall player behavior before launch.
Matchmaking Remains a Major Discussion
Modern Warfare 4 is also testing different matchmaking approaches.
Some playlists use a modified Skill Based Matchmaking system, while others use a more open matchmaking model. That has again brought debate around SBMM into focus.
Supporters of SBMM argue that matching players by skill can create more balanced matches and improve retention. Critics say the system can make strong performance feel punishing because successful players are regularly placed into harder lobbies.
The development team has continued adjusting multiplayer during the beta, including changes to weapon balance and Time to Kill.

Those updates suggest that feedback collected during the testing period is already influencing the game before release.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23 for Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Players with eligible preorders will be able to access the campaign earlier, beginning October 16.
The beta extension does not significantly change the overall testing schedule, but it gives players a final opportunity to finish progression goals and spend more time with the multiplayer systems before the servers close.
