New Assassin’s Creed Hexe details have reportedly leaked, and the biggest claim is one that longtime fans will notice immediately: Ezio Auditore may return.
According to details shared by leakers Rogue and j0nathan, the game’s protagonist appears to be named Anika, while “Elsa” may be a placeholder name used during development. The character is reportedly connected to the Auditore family through Claudia Auditore, Ezio’s sister.
That would give Hexe a direct narrative link to the Italian Brotherhood, even though the game is set far away from Renaissance Italy.
The main setting is said to be Würzburg, a city in Bavaria tied historically to brutal witch trials in the 16th century. Other locations are reportedly planned too, but Würzburg appears to be the central hub or main region.
Here is the reported picture:
| Detail | Reported info |
|---|---|
| Game | Assassin’s Creed Hexe |
| Protagonist | Anika |
| Placeholder name | Elsa |
| Bloodline connection | Descendant of Claudia Auditore |
| Main location | Würzburg, Bavaria |
| Possible returning character | Ezio Auditore |
| Internal target | June 2027 |
| Possible delay | Holiday 2027 |
The leak also points to Ezio appearing as an older mentor figure. Some leaked dialogue reportedly has him telling Anika to leap with him “one last time,” while another line references the Assassin maxim, “Nothing is true, everything is permitted.”
It is not clear how Ezio appears. He could be physically present, shown through flashbacks, or connected through an Isu artifact or memory sequence. Because Hexe is set in the 16th century, Ubisoft has a few ways to include him without making the timeline feel impossible.

Anika’s story appears to focus on persecution during the witch trials. One leaked line has her saying that people call her a witch and want to burn her for what she can do and what she knows.
That fits Hexe’s darker setting. The game has long been expected to lean into fear, suspicion, occult imagery, and witch trial paranoia. Reported mission objectives such as finding ritual sites and recovering stolen relics suggest Ubisoft may build that atmosphere directly into the quest design.
Gameplay leaks also mention Blood Pacts, poison mechanics, and a more sensitive detection system where NPCs quickly report suspicious activity. A skill tree entry for tree to tree branch jumping also suggests woodland traversal and parkour will play a role.
The Ezio connection is the part that will get the most attention, but the Anika setup may be more important. If she really descends from Claudia, Hexe could explore the Auditore legacy without simply making the game about Ezio again.
The project has reportedly had a difficult development history. Creative director Clint Hocking left Ubisoft in February 2026, and Jean Guesdon, known for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, stepped in as creative director. Reports suggest Guesdon changed the game’s direction, moving away from some earlier supernatural mechanics, including a cat possession ability.
Then in April 2026, game director Benoit Richer also left Ubisoft to co found Servo Games. Around the same period, roughly 50 developers were reportedly moved off Hexe to Ubisoft’s internal Interproject team.
Despite that, Hexe is still said to be one of Ubisoft’s most desirable internal projects. The current target is reportedly June 2027, though a slip to Holiday 2027 is considered possible.
The leak should still be treated carefully. Ubisoft has not confirmed these details, and games can change during development. But if the information is accurate, Assassin’s Creed Hexe may be shaping into one of the more interesting entries in the series.
A witch trial setting, a darker tone, an Auditore bloodline connection, and a possible older Ezio mentor appearance could give Hexe the kind of identity Assassin’s Creed needs after years of shifting between massive RPGs and smaller stealth focused entries.
