Apple’s Siri upgrade may bring a ChatGPT style app with auto deleting conversations

Apple is reportedly preparing a major Siri overhaul for iOS 27, and the update could finally move the assistant beyond basic tasks like timers, alarms, and smart home controls. The new version is expected to include a dedicated Siri app with a chatbot style experience closer to ChatGPT or Claude.

According to the report, Apple wants Siri to feel more like a built in AI assistant rather than a voice tool that only answers simple commands. You may be able to access the new experience from a “Search or Ask” option that appears after swiping down from the top of the iPhone display.

That would give Siri a more central role inside iOS. Instead of only speaking to Siri or using it for quick commands, you could open a full conversation interface and ask more complex questions, continue previous chats, or use it for deeper AI tasks.

The privacy setup may become one of the most important parts of the update. The new Siri is expected to use prior conversations to improve responses, but Apple may offer auto delete options to reduce privacy concerns. Conversations could be deleted after 30 days or after one year, with another option to keep them forever.

Conversation historyHelps Siri understand past chats
Auto delete controlsLets chats disappear after 30 days or one year
Keep forever optionAllows longer chat history if you choose

The most surprising part is Apple’s reported use of Google technology. Apple’s Foundation Models are said to be using parts of Google’s Gemini technology, along with some Google infrastructure, to answer questions and handle AI tasks.

That would be a major shift for Apple. The company has usually pushed privacy focused AI through its own systems, including Private Cloud Compute, which uses Apple Silicon and is designed to keep user data protected. Using Google cloud infrastructure could make the new Siri more capable, but it also creates a bigger privacy challenge for Apple to explain.

Apple has built much of its brand around privacy, so it will need to be clear about what data is sent to outside systems, how long it is stored, and what controls people have. The auto delete options may be part of that effort.

Siri badly needs the upgrade. Apple Intelligence was supposed to make the assistant smarter, but Siri has still struggled to match newer AI tools from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic. A dedicated AI chat app could give Apple a better way to compete.

The larger question is whether Apple can make Siri feel useful without making it feel invasive. A stronger assistant needs context, memory, and access to apps, but iPhone owners will expect strong privacy controls at every step.

If the report is accurate, iOS 27 could be one of the most important Siri updates in years. Apple has the hardware, the ecosystem, and the user base. Now it needs to prove that Siri can become a real AI assistant without losing the privacy trust that many people expect from Apple.
