Amazon has the 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple's M5 chip at $1,839.00, cutting $160.00 from the $1,999.00 Apple charges for the identical build. The anchor on the listing matches Apple's current price to the dollar, so this is a discount measured against a figure someone is still asking.

The machine on offer is the base M5 configuration in Space Black, with a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, 16GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD. Unified memory is soldered to the chip package, so the 16GB here is the ceiling for the life of the laptop.
What the $1,839.00 price actually is
Amazon's listing shows $1,839.00 for the Space Black MacBook Pro against a $1,999.00 list price, an 8% cut. The buy box reads "Ships from: Amazon.com" and "Sold by: Amazon.com", so no marketplace reseller is involved.
The price is not Prime-gated. There is no Prime-exclusive figure sitting beside a higher open one, and the listing carries no limited-time-deal badge or countdown.
Apple sells the same part number, MDE14LL/A, through its own store. Its configurator prices that Space Black build with 16GB and 1TB at $1,999.00.
Apple offers no 512GB version of the M5 MacBook Pro, so 1TB is the entry storage rather than an upgrade. That makes the comparison clean, because there is no cheaper Apple build to measure against.
Colour and memory choices are thin at Amazon. The Silver version of this configuration and the 24GB Space Black version both read "Currently unavailable" at the time of writing.

Apple 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 specifications
Apple's MacBook Pro tech specs page describes M5 as a 10-core CPU with four super cores and six efficiency cores, alongside a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in each core. Memory bandwidth is 153GB/s and the Neural Engine has 16 cores.
| Specification | 14-inch MacBook Pro (M5) |
|---|---|
| Chip | Apple M5, 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine |
| Memory | 16GB unified, 153GB/s bandwidth, fixed at purchase |
| Storage | 1TB SSD |
| Display | 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR, 3024 by 1964 at 254ppi, mini-LED backlit |
| Brightness | 1600 nits peak HDR, 1000 nits sustained, 1000 nits SDR outdoors |
| Refresh | ProMotion, adaptive up to 120Hz |
| Ports | Three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe 3, headphone jack |
| Battery | 72.4Wh, up to 24 hours video streaming, 70W adapter |
| Weight | 3.4 pounds (1.55 kg) |
The panel is the part the Amazon listing undersells. Apple's Mac comparison page calls it a mini-LED backlit display, which is where the 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio comes from.
What the Pro buys over a MacBook Air
Apple's MacBook Air specs list a 13.6-inch IPS panel at 500 nits, with no ProMotion and no variable refresh rate of any kind. The Pro's mini-LED panel reaches 1600 nits peak and scales to 120Hz.
Apple describes the Air as having a "silent, fanless design". That is the quieter machine, and also the one with less headroom under a sustained export or compile.
Ports are the third gap. The Air has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and no HDMI or card slot, while the Pro adds a third Thunderbolt port, HDMI and SDXC.
Battery favours the Pro too, at up to 24 hours of video streaming against the Air's 18. The cost is weight, 3.4 pounds against 2.7 for the 13-inch Air, and Digital Citizen has tracked how far Air prices can fall.
How it compares with other Apple laptops on Amazon
The step up is the M5 Pro version of the same chassis, listed at $2,345.00 against Apple's $2,499.00. It brings a 15-core CPU, a 16-core GPU, 307GB/s of bandwidth and Thunderbolt 5.
| Model | Key hardware | Amazon price | Apple price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 | 10-core CPU, 16GB, 1TB, XDR 120Hz | $1,839.00 | $1,999.00 |
| 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 Pro | 15-core CPU, 24GB, 1TB, Thunderbolt 5 | $2,345.00 | $2,499.00 |
| 13-inch MacBook Air M5 | 16GB, 512GB, 500-nit IPS, fanless | $1,099.00 | $1,299.00 |
| 15-inch MacBook Air M5 | 16GB, 512GB, 500-nit IPS, fanless | $1,299.00 | $1,499.00 |
Both Airs are cheaper per dollar of discount, at $1,099.00 for the 13-inch and $1,299.00 for the 15-inch. Amazon holds the buy box on all four listings, with no third-party seller on any of them.
Windows alternatives at this price are thinner on display specification. Digital Citizen has covered Microsoft's most direct answer to the MacBook Pro and what Apple's next chip generation may change.
What the listing leaves out
Amazon's spec block never says mini-LED, and it repeats Apple's battery figures without the testing conditions. Apple reached up to 24 hours with a preproduction unit holding 24GB rather than 16GB, streaming 1080p in Safari at brightness set eight clicks from the bottom.
The listing also carries a stale line from the previous generation, offering a 35W adapter "included with M4 with 10-core GPU" inside a table headed M5. Apple lists only the 70W adapter for this machine.
Nothing on either page states that the memory and SSD cannot be changed later, and Amazon's own product-information table records the CPU model as "Unknown". Benchmark results and noise under sustained load are not published by either company.
No end date is given for the $1,839.00 price, and Amazon gives no indication of how long Space Black will stay in stock. Prices move, and this one was checked on October 5, 2026.
