Following Adobe's partnership with ChatGPT only a few days ago, the company has announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Runway that brings Runway’s latest Gen-4.5 AI video generation model into Adobe’s creative ecosystem, starting with Firefly and expanding into tools like Premiere Pro and After Effects.
The move signals Adobe’s push to make generative AI video part of everyday professional editing workflows, not a separate experiment.
Runway Gen-4.5 arrives inside Adobe Firefly
Under the agreement, Adobe becomes Runway’s preferred API creativity partner and gains early access to Runway’s newest video generation models, starting with Gen-4.5.
Gen-4.5 is available inside Adobe Firefly, where creators can generate short AI video clips from text prompts, then move those clips into Creative Cloud apps for editing and finishing.
Runway positions Gen-4.5 around improved motion quality, stronger prompt adherence, and higher visual fidelity, with better temporal consistency so characters and objects stay coherent across frames.
How Premiere Pro users benefit
For Premiere Pro users, the partnership aims to make AI-generated clips easier to bring into an existing timeline, so editors can refine footage using the same tools they already rely on.
Editors can generate short shots, visual ideas, or experimental cutaways with Gen-4.5, then polish them with color, effects, audio, and pacing controls inside Adobe’s production workflow.
The workflow also extends to After Effects, where creators can add motion graphics, compositing, and VFX to AI-generated footage.
Limited-time access and rollout plans
Adobe confirmed promotional access to Gen-4.5 during the initial rollout inside Firefly, with longer-term usage expected to align with Adobe’s standard Firefly credit approach after the launch period.
Runway will keep offering Gen-4.5 through its own platform, while Adobe customers get early access and tighter Creative Cloud integration.
Why this partnership matters
The Adobe-Runway deal highlights a shift toward combining production-grade creative tools with specialized AI models, so creators spend less time moving assets between services.
- Faster ideation: generate quick concepts and test visual directions before committing to a full edit.
- Smoother workflows: bring AI-generated clips into Premiere Pro and After Effects for finishing.
- More practical AI video: improved consistency makes generated clips easier to use in real timelines.
With AI video tools evolving quickly, Adobe’s alliance with Runway puts Gen-4.5 closer to the workflows professional editors already use every day.
