Microsoft’s new Xbox Presents format has started with a much bigger result than expected. The first episode, focused entirely on Stranger Than Heaven, has become the most viewed livestream ever on Xbox’s YouTube channel.
The stream was already impressive when early numbers showed about 7.5 million views, but it has since climbed to around 12 million views. That puts it far ahead of Xbox’s previous biggest livestreams, including older E3 shows and major Xbox showcase events.
| Xbox YouTube livestream | Views |
|---|---|
| Stranger Than Heaven: Xbox Presents | Around 12 million |
| Xbox E3 2017 | 2.6 million |
| Xbox Games Showcase 2025 | 2.1 million |
| Halo 5: Live | 1.3 million |
| Xbox Series X Gameplay | 1.3 million |
The gap is huge. Xbox E3 2017 was one of Microsoft’s biggest traditional stage shows, yet Stranger Than Heaven has already pulled in several times more views. That makes the performance unusual, especially because Xbox Presents is a new format built around one game instead of a full lineup.
Stranger Than Heaven is a new SEGA RPG from the team behind the Yakuza series. The game is planned for release this winter and is also coming to Xbox Game Pass. That Game Pass launch likely helped raise interest, since subscribers already know they will be able to try it without buying it separately.
The success of the stream also shows that focused showcases can work well when the right game is involved. Instead of rushing through many trailers, Xbox gave Stranger Than Heaven its own space. That may have helped viewers understand the game better and created more attention around it.

It is still not fully clear why the view count climbed so high. The Yakuza team has a loyal fanbase, SEGA RPGs have strong global appeal, and Xbox Game Pass gives the game wider reach. The unusual format may also have helped the video stand out from normal marketing streams.
For Xbox, this is a useful signal. The company has been trying new ways to present games, rebuild its image, and give individual titles more attention. If Xbox Presents can bring this kind of audience, Microsoft may use the format again for other major Game Pass releases.
The bigger takeaway is simple. Stranger Than Heaven is already drawing serious interest before launch. A single game showcase beating Xbox’s old E3 streams is rare, and it gives both Microsoft and SEGA a strong marketing win months before release.
