Xbox May Be Testing a New Mythic Achievement for 100 Percent Game Completion

Microsoft appears to be testing a new Xbox achievement category called “Mythic Achievement,” which could become the platform’s equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy.

The feature has not been formally announced, but evidence from the Xbox Insider program suggests Microsoft is experimenting with a new way to mark major completion milestones.

A screenshot shared from the Alpha Skip Ahead testing ring showed filters labeled around completed and incomplete Mythic Achievements, indicating that the feature is already being integrated into parts of the Xbox interface.

The screenshot came from achievement hunter Stallion83, who has accumulated more than 3.3 million Gamerscore.

According to the report, the Mythic Achievement option appeared within an Xbox Insider build and is still considered unfinished.

The interface reportedly includes separate filters for completed and incomplete Mythic Achievements.

That detail makes the exact purpose of the feature uncertain.

The presence of an incomplete Mythic Achievement filter could mean the system works differently from simply awarding a special badge after every standard achievement has been unlocked.

It could become Xbox’s answer to the Platinum Trophy

Microsoft previously hinted that it was working on an achievement feature similar to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy.

On PlayStation, a Platinum Trophy is generally awarded after you unlock the required trophies in a game’s base list.

Xbox currently has no direct equivalent.

Players can reach 100 percent achievement completion and earn the maximum available Gamerscore, but there is no separate achievement specifically marking that accomplishment.

A Mythic Achievement could provide Xbox players with a more visible completion reward.

However, Microsoft has not confirmed that the leaked interface refers to that exact system.

The wording seen in the Insider build is therefore strong evidence of development, but it should not yet be treated as a finalized feature.

DLC and expansions create an important question

One of the biggest unknowns is how Microsoft would define completion.

Games frequently receive expansions and free updates that add new achievements after release.

If Mythic Achievements require every achievement in the current list, a game that was previously completed could potentially become incomplete after new content arrives.

Microsoft could instead tie the Mythic requirement to the original base game achievement list.

That would be closer to how many players understand PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy system and would prevent later DLC from changing an already earned completion reward.

The current Insider interface does not provide enough information to determine which approach Microsoft is taking.

Older games may or may not receive Mythic Achievements

Backward compatibility presents another major question.

Xbox has decades of games across the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series generations.

Many players already have hundreds of completed games on their profiles.

Microsoft has not indicated whether Mythic Achievements would be awarded retroactively for titles that players have already completed.

Retroactive support could immediately give longtime achievement hunters large collections of Mythic Achievements.

A system limited to future games would be much simpler to implement but would leave older completions outside the new framework.

There is also uncertainty around titles with discontinued online achievements or closed servers, where reaching 100 percent is no longer possible for new players.

The final system could still change

Because the feature has appeared in an Alpha Skip Ahead build, Microsoft still has plenty of room to modify or remove it before public release.

Xbox Insider builds regularly contain experimental features that are incomplete or not guaranteed to reach all players.

The name itself could also change.

For now, “Mythic Achievement” appears to be the clearest indication yet of how Microsoft may distinguish major completion milestones within the Xbox achievement system.

The bigger questions involve how Mythics are earned, whether DLC affects them, whether older completions qualify and whether every game will support the system.

Until Microsoft provides official details, the Insider appearance should be treated as evidence of active testing rather than confirmation of the final design.
