Xbox Free Play Days closes May with Dying Light, Gears of War: Reloaded, and High on Life 2

Xbox’s final Free Play Days lineup for May gives players four games to try over the weekend, with Dying Light, Formula Legends, Gears of War: Reloaded, and High on Life 2 all available for a limited time. The free period runs until late Sunday, May 31, although access rules are different depending on the game.

Dying Light and Formula Legends require an Xbox Game Pass subscription during the Free Play Days window. Gears of War: Reloaded and High on Life 2 are available to all Xbox members, but High on Life 2 comes with a five hour trial limit rather than full weekend access.

That makes this weekend’s selection a little more varied than usual. You have a zombie survival classic, a racing game, a remastered Xbox shooter, and a comedy sci fi shooter sequel. It is also a useful chance to test a few games before buying, especially because Xbox is running its large Deals Unlocked sale at the same time.

The free lineup has something for different types of Xbox players

Dying Light is still the most recognizable name here for players who enjoy open world survival. Its mix of parkour, melee combat, zombies, and night time danger helped it stand out when it first launched, and it remains a strong pick for anyone who missed it earlier. The timing is also good because the game is getting a free visual upgrade through the Dying Light: Retouched update.

Formula Legends covers the racing side of the lineup. It should appeal to players who want something lighter than a full simulation racer but still enjoy motorsport style driving. Since it requires Game Pass for Free Play Days access, subscribers can treat it as a quick weekend test before deciding whether it is worth keeping.

High on Life 2Free for all Xbox members, five hour trial

Gears of War: Reloaded is likely the biggest draw for longtime Xbox fans. Making it available to all Xbox members gives more players a chance to revisit one of the platform’s most important franchises before newer Gears projects arrive. If you have not played the original campaign in years, this is an easy weekend excuse to return.

High on Life 2 is handled differently because it is a limited trial. Five hours should still be enough to get a feel for the humor, combat, world design, and general tone. That matters because High on Life’s style is not for everyone. A trial is probably the right format for a game where personality is such a big part of the appeal.

There is also an extra free weekend outside Microsoft’s official Free Play Days list. Path of Exile 2 is free across all platforms, including Xbox, from May 29 until June 1. That gives action RPG fans another option if the official Xbox lineup does not fully grab them.

To download any of the Free Play Days titles, search for the game on the Xbox Store, then choose the install or free trial option. For Game Pass gated titles, you will need an active subscription.

This is a solid final Free Play Days weekend for May. It is not built around one massive new release, but it gives players a broad mix of genres. With the Deals Unlocked sale also live, it is a good time to sample a game first and then buy it at a discount if it clicks.
