Windows 11 July Update Brings Better Update Controls, System Recovery and Screen Tint

Windows 11 is set to receive several practical improvements in July, including a simpler way to pause updates, a new system recovery feature, a customizable screen tint option, and better Bluetooth behaviour. None of these changes depend on AI hardware, which means they should be available across a wide range of Windows 11 PCs.

The update is expected to first appear as an optional preview release near the end of June before reaching all eligible Windows 11 devices through the July 2026 Patch Tuesday update.

The biggest additions focus on giving you more control over updates, reducing distractions, and making it easier to recover from serious system problems.

Windows Update Will Finally Let You Pause Updates With a Calendar

Windows 11 is adding a more useful update pause tool that lets you choose an end date from a calendar instead of relying on a short, fixed pause period.

You will be able to pause updates for up to 35 days and extend that pause by selecting another date. This should make update management less frustrating for people who are travelling, working on an important project, or waiting for a known issue to be resolved.

Windows updates remain important for security, but many people prefer to decide when a restart or major installation should happen. The calendar-based tool should make that easier without completely disabling updates.

Point-in-Time Restore Will Add Stronger Recovery Options

Microsoft is also introducing Point-in-Time Restore, a new recovery feature that can create restore points for your apps, settings, and personal files.

The feature goes further than the existing System Restore option because it can help restore local applications and files as well as system settings. Restore points are stored for up to 72 hours by default, though the retention period can be adjusted.

This could be useful after a faulty driver installation, broken software update, malware issue, or accidental system change. Instead of manually troubleshooting every part of the problem, you may be able to return the PC to an earlier working state.

New Windows 11 featureWhat it does
Calendar update pauseLets you delay updates for up to 35 days
Point-in-Time RestoreRestores apps, settings, and local files
Screen TintAdds a custom colour overlay to the display
Bluetooth improvementsMakes pairing and audio connections more reliable
Taskbar changesReduces unwanted widget expansion and notifications

Screen Tint Gives You More Control Over Display Comfort

A new Screen Tint feature will let you apply a coloured overlay across the entire desktop. You can choose from preset colours and adjust their intensity to make the display more comfortable for your eyes.

This is different from Night Light, which mainly changes colour temperature by making the screen warmer or cooler.

Screen Tint gives you more direct control over the colour itself. It may be useful for people who work late at night, experience eye strain, or prefer a certain screen tone when reading or using a bright display for long periods.

Bluetooth Headsets and Earbuds Should Work More Reliably

The July update also includes several Bluetooth fixes. These changes are intended to improve headset controls, pairing behaviour, microphone reliability, and audio reconnection after a dropout.

AirPods should enter pairing mode more quickly, while Beats Studio Pro microphone connections are expected to become more stable. Bluetooth LE Audio streaming should also reconnect faster when audio drops or when a microphone is used at the same time.

These changes may sound minor, but Bluetooth issues can be especially annoying during calls, gaming, or video meetings. Faster reconnection and more reliable microphone support should make wireless accessories feel less unpredictable.

Taskbar Widgets Will Become Less Distracting

Microsoft is changing how widgets behave on the taskbar. Instead of expanding immediately when you move your cursor over them, widgets will be less likely to interrupt your work by opening accidentally.

The company is also reducing the number of notification prompts shown through the taskbar. Notification icons will better match your selected Windows accent colour, giving the interface a more consistent appearance.

The July update is not a major redesign, but it includes the type of improvements many Windows 11 users have been asking for. Better update control, stronger recovery tools, less distracting widgets, and improved Bluetooth support should make everyday PC use smoother.
