Two more free to play games have arrived on Xbox consoles, giving players new options across competitive mech combat and idle role playing.
War Robots is the larger release of the pair. The tactical multiplayer shooter has already attracted more than 325 million players worldwide, largely through its long running mobile version. It is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S with controls and performance adjusted for consoles.
The second release is Incremental Epic Hero 2, an idle RPG built around six playable heroes, long term progression and a large amount of repeatable content. Both games can be downloaded without an upfront payment, although optional purchases are available.
Neither title requires a traditional purchase, but their free to play models mean progression, cosmetics or other benefits may be connected to microtransactions.

War Robots brings its mobile PvP battles to Xbox
War Robots is built around online battles between large combat machines.
Players choose and customise their robots before entering team based matches. Positioning, ambushes and control of important areas are central to the gameplay, while upgrades allow each machine to become more effective over time.
The console release keeps the basic structure of the existing game rather than creating a separate Xbox experience. Its controls and technical setup have been adapted for a controller, which should make the transition easier for players who have only encountered the game on mobile devices.
The game is available on both current and previous generation Xbox hardware. This gives Xbox One owners access alongside those playing on Series X and Series S.
Despite its large global audience, early reception on console appears mixed. The Xbox version has received a relatively low average rating from players in the United States, while its Steam edition also holds a Mixed overall rating based on thousands of reviews.
Those scores do not necessarily mean every player will have a poor experience, but they suggest that balance, monetisation or progression may not suit everyone.
War Robots is separate from War Robots: Frontiers
The new Xbox release should not be confused with War Robots: Frontiers.
Frontiers arrived earlier and uses the same broader brand, but it is a different game with its own systems and audience. The newly released War Robots is the main title that first became popular on mobile platforms.
The similar names may create confusion for anyone searching the Xbox Store. Players should check the title, screenshots and description before downloading.
The main War Robots experience focuses on established tactical PvP battles and a large collection of upgradeable machines. Frontiers takes a different approach and has not reached the same reported audience.
Incremental Epic Hero 2 offers a slower RPG experience
Incremental Epic Hero 2 is aimed at players who prefer gradual progression rather than competitive action.
The game allows you to control six heroes as they travel through a fantasy world, earn resources and become stronger. As an idle RPG, some of its systems are designed to continue producing progress with limited direct input.
Its presentation is deliberately simple and resembles older PC role playing games. The focus is on repeated upgrades, character development and unlocking new systems over a long period.
The developers claim that the game includes more than 1,000 hours of content. That figure should be treated as an estimate based on its extended progression systems rather than a conventional story campaign lasting that long.
Unlike War Robots, Incremental Epic Hero 2 currently has a Mostly Positive average rating on Steam. Early Xbox reviews also appear more favourable, although the smaller audience means those ratings may change as more people try it.
Both games can be tested without financial risk
The main advantage of these releases is that neither requires an upfront purchase.
You can download them, test the controls and decide whether their progression systems are worth your time. This is particularly useful for War Robots because its large player count may create expectations that do not match its mixed review scores.
Free to play games still require some caution. Optional purchases can affect progression speed, access to items or customisation. Players should review the in game store and understand how upgrades are earned before spending money.
War Robots is the more recognisable and competitive option, while Incremental Epic Hero 2 is better suited to slower solo progression. They offer very different experiences, but both expand the selection of free games currently available across Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles.
