Steam Frame Presale Listing Asks $2,049.99 on eBay Despite Valve's No-Resale Terms

A "Presale Steam Frame VR Kit 1TB" listing on eBay asks $2,049.99, even though Valve's own purchase terms say the right to buy the headset cannot be resold. The asking price sits about 58% above Valve's $1,299 price for the same kit, and no completed sale of it could be confirmed.

Valve's Steam Frame Limited Drop Program Terms are blunt on this point. "The right to purchase the Product has no cash value and cannot be substituted, transferred, assigned, bartered, or auctioned, and any attempt to take such actions will result in opportunity being void," the terms state.

The listing appeared after Valve began sending purchase links to selected buyers, starting Friday, September 18, 2026. Digital Citizen already covered the Steam Frame launch price and bundled Half-Life: Alyx, so this piece focuses on the resale side.

What the $2,049.99 Steam Frame listing actually shows

The only Steam Frame headset listing found in a direct eBay search on September 19, 2026, is that 1TB "presale" kit. It asks $2,049.99 "or Best Offer," plus $86.55 for shipping from Manassas, Virginia.

The seller account, "l.peira," shows "No feedback yet" as a seller. The listing gives an estimated delivery window of October 14 to November 4, which points to a seller who does not yet have a unit to ship.

This is an asking price, not a sale. The listing showed no sold count at the time of the check, only 2 watchers and 452 views that day.

The marketplace keeps its sold and completed listings behind a sign-in, so whether any Steam Frame reservation has actually changed hands could not be verified. A search for "steam frame reservation" returned no results, and no live 256GB listing turned up.

Steam Frame resale prices compared with Valve's prices

Other asking prices have been reported but could not be checked directly. Those include roughly $1,750 for the 256GB kit and "$2,000 or more" for the 1TB kit, reportedly listed within hours of the first purchase emails.

Valve's prices come from its own Steam store and exclude tax and shipping. Valve's Steam Frame hardware page also says its $29, $49 and $59 accessories are only available when added to the cart with a headset order. That detail was covered in the early hands-on report on the accessory kit.

Why Valve randomized Steam Frame reservations

Valve built the queue to blunt this kind of rush. "A launch that starts at a specific day and time tends to reward bots, people with fast internet connections, talented gaming fingers for quick F5/refresh reactions," the company says in its FAQ.

The multi-day signup window "allows us to do some extra validation on the signups to make sure they're real accounts, with only one per household," Valve adds. The system itself first surfaced in the Steam backend ahead of launch.

The terms back that up with a one-per-household limit, checked against shipping address and payment details. Each purchase link also expires 72 hours after Valve sends it.

Anyone buying a spot from a stranger carries the risk. Valve says a link "is void if not obtained from authorized and legitimate channels," and it reserves the right to disqualify people who break the terms.

What eBay's intangible items policy says

The eBay intangible items policy says "intangible items or things that buyers can't confirm that they've received are not allowed," in eBay's words. Listed penalties include removing the listing, a seller warning, restricted account activity or suspension.

The policy text does not name reservations or queue spots. It has been reported that eBay is removing some Steam Frame listings as "Intangible item" listings after user reports, and that Reddit users have organized to flag them.

Reservation flipping has reportedly followed earlier Valve hardware launches too, including the Steam Machine, whose reservation orders Valve says will be fulfilled by the end of 2026.

What Valve has not said about Steam Frame resale

Valve has not published any statement about these eBay listings, and there is no public record of it voiding a reseller's purchase right. It has also not said how many purchase links it has sent or how many units are in the first drop.

The number of live resale listings is not published either, and it shifts as listings appear and disappear. At the time of writing, the $2,049.99 listing remains an unsold asking price.
