A new Space Marine 2 mod is giving Halo fans a glimpse of the kind of spin off game they have wanted for years. The Sangheili Campaign mod replaces the main Space Marine 2 experience with Halo inspired Elite characters, Covenant weapons, visual effects, and familiar equipment from Halo Reach.
Created by Skykiller and built with Halo Reach Sangheili models, the mod does far more than swap one character model for another. It changes the look and feel of the campaign by replacing much of the weapon set with Covenant themed alternatives. Players can use weapons such as the Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle, Plasma Repeater, Carbine, Needle Rifle, and the Energy Sword.
The result is a fan made crossover that fits surprisingly well with Space Marine 2’s combat system. Saber Interactive’s game already focuses on large scale battles, melee action, alien enemies, and heavily armored fighters. Replacing the Space Marines with Sangheili makes the campaign feel closer to a Halo action game built around the Covenant instead of the UNSC.
The Sangheili Campaign mod changes more than character models
Many cosmetic mods are limited to visual replacements, but Sangheili Campaign changes a wider range of elements. The Sangheili models include updated textures, materials, and effects intended to match Space Marine 2’s darker environments.
The weapon replacements are especially important because they help the mod feel more connected to Halo Reach rather than simply placing an Elite inside another game. Familiar Covenant weapons change the visual identity of combat, while the Energy Sword gives players one of Halo’s best known melee tools.
| Mod feature | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Sangheili character models | Halo Reach inspired Elites in the campaign |
| Covenant weapons | Plasma Pistol, Carbine, Needle Rifle, Plasma Repeater, and more |
| Energy Sword | A recognisable Halo melee weapon |
| Updated effects | Modified visuals to better match the Halo theme |
| Campaign replacement | A new way to experience Space Marine 2’s missions |
| Halo Reach influence | Designs and equipment based on the 2010 Halo title |
The mod also shows how well the Sangheili design can work in a more aggressive third person action format. Halo has usually kept the Covenant as enemies, allies, or occasional playable characters in multiplayer and special modes. A full campaign built around a Sangheili warrior remains a rare idea in the official series.
Halo has rarely explored this type of action game
Halo is best known for first person shooters, but its universe has enough factions, locations, weapons, and characters to support other genres. Halo Wars showed that the franchise could work as a strategy game, while Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike explored twin stick action.

However, there has never been an official Halo game built like Space Marine 2. A third person campaign focused on Sangheili warriors, Covenant weapons, close combat, and large enemy groups could offer something very different from the usual Master Chief experience.
The Sangheili Campaign mod highlights that missed opportunity. Its appeal is not only about seeing Halo assets in another game. It also comes from the idea that Halo’s world has room for more than one style of gameplay.
A fan project that shows Halo’s unused potential
The mod does not mean an official Halo game of this kind is coming. It is still a community project built for Space Marine 2, and players should expect the usual limitations that come with unofficial mods.
Still, it is an effective demonstration of what fans want to see from Halo outside its core formula. The Sangheili Campaign mod combines the scale and brutal action of Space Marine 2 with Halo Reach inspired Covenant equipment in a way that feels natural.
For Halo fans, it may be one of the clearest examples yet of how much potential remains in the series beyond another traditional first person shooter.
