Sony sets June 2 State of Play with Marvel’s Wolverine leading a 60 minute showcase

Sony has confirmed that its next State of Play will air on Tuesday, June 2, with more than 60 minutes of updates, reveals, and gameplay news planned for the broadcast. The show will stream at 2 PM PT, 5 PM ET, and 11 PM CEST on YouTube and Twitch. Marvel’s Wolverine is the main title confirmed for the event, giving PlayStation fans their first deeper look at Insomniac’s next major superhero game.

Marvel’s Wolverine is currently planned for a September 15 launch on PlayStation 5. The game is expected to remain a console exclusive, especially after recent comments from PlayStation Studios leadership indicating that Sony is moving back toward keeping its single player first party games on PlayStation rather than launching them on PC.

Wolverine, by contrast, is more grounded, more violent, and more closely tied to personal conflict, travel, and smaller scale encounters.

That makes the structure of the game one of the biggest questions. Sony may reveal whether Marvel’s Wolverine uses a full open world, smaller semi open zones, or a more tightly paced linear structure. The report suggests that semi open linear areas may make more sense because Logan is not tied to one city in the same way Spider Man is tied to New York.

The showcase may also clarify the game’s story direction and supporting cast. Since Marvel’s Wolverine is set in the same universe as Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider Man games, cameos are possible, though Sony has not confirmed any specific appearances. Fans will likely be watching closely for signs of how connected the two series will be.
