Sony may show more PlayStation exclusives at June State of Play beyond Marvel’s Wolverine

Sony’s next State of Play is already confirmed for Tuesday, June 2, and Marvel’s Wolverine will be the main attraction. The broadcast will air at 2 PM Pacific Time, 5 PM Eastern Time, and 11 PM CEST, with Insomniac’s upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive expected to get a deeper gameplay showcase before its planned September 15 launch.

This is connected to the earlier State of Play announcement, but it is not the same story. The previous update focused on Sony officially confirming the event and Marvel’s Wolverine taking the spotlight. This report focuses on what else Sony may show during the same broadcast, including more PlayStation exclusives and the rumored God of War spin off centered on Faye.

The rumored God of War Faye game could be one of Sony’s biggest surprises

According to insider Nate the Hate, Sony may show more exclusives during the June State of Play than only Marvel’s Wolverine and the rumored God of War Faye project. The Faye game has been discussed in earlier reports, and it would likely be a prequel because Faye’s death is what sets the story of 2018’s God of War in motion.

The rumored project is said to feature Faye as the protagonist. Other reports have suggested that Týr could also appear, along with unusual companions such as a gelatinous cube and a talking sword said to be Merlin. The report says these ideas draw from multiple Middle Eastern and Asian mythologies, which would mark a major shift from the Norse focus of the recent God of War games.

Possible State of Play focusCurrent status
Marvel’s WolverineConfirmed for the showcase
God of War Faye spin offRumored
Intergalactic: The Heretic ProphetPossible, but not confirmed
Horizon Hunters GatheringUnlikely, reportedly still in playtesting
Third party console exclusivePossible

Nate the Hate reportedly could not confirm whether Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will appear. He did say the event should be good, while also warning fans to keep expectations grounded. That matters because June showcases often create high expectations, especially when Sony uses them as a replacement for the old E3 style presentation.

Sony may also have limits on what it can show. Guerrilla’s reported co op Horizon project, Horizon Hunters Gathering, has only recently started playtesting. Sucker Punch has already released Ghost of Yotei and its Legends mode, Housemarque recently released Saros, and Bend Studio and Firesprite reportedly had projects canceled. Because of that, some first party studios may not be ready for new reveals.

A third party console exclusive from a Japanese or Chinese developer is still possible. Sony has often used its showcases to highlight games that are not internally developed but still closely tied to PlayStation. That could help fill out the broadcast even if only a few first party projects are ready.

For now, Marvel’s Wolverine is the only safe expectation. Anything beyond that should be treated as rumor until Sony confirms it. Still, if the Faye centered God of War project appears, it could become one of the biggest talking points of the show. It would also give PlayStation fans a clearer sense of how Sony plans to keep its single player exclusive lineup strong beyond Wolverine.
