Shuhei Yoshida Calls Bloodborne’s Absence From PS5 and PC a Mystery

Bloodborne remains limited to PlayStation 4 more than a decade after its original release, and even former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida says he does not understand why Sony has not brought the game to newer platforms.

During a keynote session at CEDEC 2026, Yoshida discussed several important games from his 30 year career at PlayStation. Bloodborne was among the titles he highlighted, alongside Demon’s Souls and the history of Sony’s relationship with FromSoftware.

Yoshida acknowledged that fans regularly ask why Bloodborne has not received a PlayStation 5 version, a remaster or an official PC release. He described the situation as a mystery and said he could not offer an explanation for the lack of movement.

Yoshida still hopes Bloodborne will return

Although Yoshida could not explain why the game remains on PlayStation 4, he did not dismiss the possibility of a future release.

Speaking as a fan, he said Bloodborne could return at some point, although he also accepted that it might never happen. He expressed similar uncertainty about a possible sequel.

His comments reflect the position Bloodborne fans have faced for years. Rumours about a remaster, remake, PC version and sequel have circulated repeatedly, but none has led to an official announcement.

The original game can be played on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility. However, it still carries the technical limits of the PlayStation 4 release, including its 30 frames per second target and uneven frame pacing.

A native PlayStation 5 version could improve resolution, performance and loading times. A PC release could also allow higher frame rates and additional display options, depending on the work completed by the developer.

Bloodborne still has a large and active audience

Bloodborne continues to attract attention because of its gothic setting, demanding combat and distinctive approach to FromSoftware’s action role playing formula.

The game takes place in Yharnam, a city affected by a mysterious blood related illness. Its faster combat and aggressive health recovery system separate it from the studio’s earlier Souls games, while its interconnected environments and hidden story remain central to its appeal.

Interest in the game has also influenced PlayStation 4 emulator development. Community projects have focused heavily on improving Bloodborne compatibility so it can run on PC at higher resolutions and frame rates.

These unofficial efforts show that demand remains strong, but they are not a replacement for an official release. Emulator compatibility can vary by hardware and software version, while visual or performance problems may remain during development.

FromSoftware’s schedule may affect any future project

One possible obstacle is FromSoftware’s involvement. A new version of Bloodborne could require approval or support from the Japanese studio, particularly if Sony wanted to make substantial changes to the original game.

A proposed remake was reportedly discussed in 2025, but it did not move forward. No official reason has been confirmed publicly.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, who directed Bloodborne, is currently involved with other projects. His schedule could limit the possibility of returning to the series in the near future, especially if Sony and FromSoftware want his direct participation.

FromSoftware is also working on The Duskbloods, a new project that has attracted considerable attention. Until that game and the studio’s other commitments progress further, a Bloodborne sequel or major remake may remain difficult to organise.

Yoshida’s comments provide no confirmation that Bloodborne is returning. They do show that the lack of a modern release remains unusual even to someone who spent decades inside PlayStation.

For now, Bloodborne is still officially tied to its original PlayStation 4 version. Fans continue to hope for better performance, a PC edition or a new entry, but Sony and FromSoftware have not announced any plans for the franchise.
