Samsung Display has introduced OBLYX, a new OLED brand made specifically for gaming laptop panels. The company revealed the branding during its first appearance at Bilibili World 2026, one of China’s major gaming and anime events.
The move shows how important gaming laptops have become for OLED panel makers. OLED screens are already common in premium phones, tablets, and some laptops, but gaming notebooks are now becoming a stronger focus because players want faster response times, deeper blacks, and better color quality in portable systems.
OBLYX is designed to make Samsung Display’s gaming laptop OLED panels easier to identify. The name is inspired by obsidian, a dark volcanic glass, which connects to OLED’s ability to produce true black levels by turning off individual pixels. Samsung Display appears to be using the brand to separate its premium laptop OLED panels from regular display offerings.
At Bilibili World 2026, Samsung Display also showed several devices using its OLED and QD OLED panels, including smartphones, laptops, and monitors. The OBLYX announcement, however, was focused on gaming notebooks and the type of panels laptop makers may use in future premium systems.
OBLYX panels will target fast gaming laptops with deep blacks and high color coverage
Samsung Display plans to offer OBLYX panels in several sizes, including 14 inch, 16 inch, and 18 inch formats. These are common sizes for modern gaming laptops, covering portable models, mainstream gaming notebooks, and larger desktop replacement machines.

The panels are expected to support refresh rates such as 120Hz, 165Hz, and 240Hz. That range gives laptop brands flexibility. A thinner gaming laptop may use a lower refresh option to balance power and battery life, while a larger performance model can move toward 240Hz for smoother competitive gaming.
Samsung Display is also claiming a 0.2ms response time, 100 percent DCI P3 color coverage, and very high contrast from the OLED panel technology. Those specifications matter because gaming laptops need to serve more than one audience. Fast response helps in competitive games, while wide color coverage and deep contrast help with story driven games, media viewing, and creative work.

The timing is important because OLED adoption in gaming laptops is growing. Laptop makers are looking for screens that can make premium models feel more distinct, especially as CPU and GPU upgrades become more expensive. A better display is one of the clearest ways to improve the overall gaming experience.
There are still practical questions. OLED panels can raise laptop prices, and buyers may also consider long term burn in protection, brightness behavior, and battery impact. These details will depend on the final laptop designs and how each manufacturer tunes the panel.
Still, OBLYX gives Samsung Display a clearer identity in the gaming laptop market. Instead of treating OLED as a general display feature, the company is turning it into a gaming focused brand. If laptop makers adopt it widely, you may start seeing OBLYX used as a badge for premium gaming notebook screens in the same way other display labels are used to signal panel quality.
