NetherRealm is working on another Mortal Kombat game, Ed Boon says

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has confirmed that NetherRealm is working on another Mortal Kombat game, while also hinting that the studio has several other projects in development.

Boon did not name the next game or share release details, but he made it clear that Mortal Kombat remains active inside NetherRealm. He said the studio is “definitely” pursuing another entry in the fighting game series and also has more work underway beyond that.

That comment comes while rumors around Injustice 3 continue to circulate. It does not rule out a new Injustice game, and it is possible that another project could arrive before the next Mortal Kombat. Still, Boon’s statement confirms that the long running fighting series is not being left behind.

He also suggested that NetherRealm is working across more than games. That could mean films, animation, comics, or other media tied to its franchises, though he did not give specific details.

The timing is notable because Mortal Kombat II is about to release in the United States. Early reactions to the movie have been more positive than the 2021 film, with praise for its fights, costumes, fatalities, character work, and Karl Urban’s role as Johnny Cage.

Boon also talked about possible guest characters he would like to see in a future Mortal Kombat game. He mentioned that many past dream picks have already happened, including Rambo, Terminator, RoboCop, and Ghostface. Looking ahead, he said he would like to see a Street Fighter character appear in Mortal Kombat, and also pointed to DC and Marvel as universes with more potential.
