Xbox players will have two more major sports games to consider in September 2026, with NBA 2K27 and EA Sports FC 27 now confirmed for release during the same month.
NBA 2K27 will launch on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 4. EA Sports FC 27 will follow on September 25 for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One.
Both games will also provide early access through their more expensive editions, although the standard release dates remain the main entry points for most buyers.
The two announcements make an already crowded September schedule even busier. Publishers have placed several large releases in this period, partly because November will be dominated by the arrival of GTA 6.
NHL 27 is also due on September 11, giving sports fans three major annual releases within the same month.

NBA 2K27 will reveal more gameplay details soon
NBA 2K27 has been confirmed for an early September launch, but its major gameplay improvements have not yet been fully explained.
A gameplay trailer is expected next week, which should provide a clearer look at changes to movement, shooting, defence and presentation.
The game will once again include its core modes, including MyCAREER, MyTEAM and MyNBA. These remain central to the series and cover career progression, team building and franchise management.
MyCAREER allows you to create a player and develop a basketball career, while MyTEAM focuses on collecting players and building custom lineups. MyNBA provides a broader management experience for those who prefer controlling a team or league.
The main question is how much NBA 2K27 will improve over last year’s release. Annual sports games often make smaller changes between entries, so the upcoming trailer will need to show why existing players should consider upgrading.
EA Sports FC 27 introduces The Grounds and expands career features
EA Sports FC 27 will launch later in the month and includes a new mode called The Grounds on current generation platforms.
The Grounds is described as a social football space where you can take part in casual matches, one against one games and Clubs sessions with friends. It also includes football mentors, progression systems and customisation options.
The concept appears designed to give players a more open social environment outside traditional matches. It may serve a similar role to the shared areas found in other sports games, although the final structure and scale remain to be seen.
Career mode will receive a rebuilt transfer market. This could affect how clubs value players, negotiate deals and manage squad development across multiple seasons.
Ultimate Team will also add a new feature called Gallery. Full details have not been provided, but it will expand the mode’s collection and progression systems.
Gameplay changes include rebalanced defensive artificial intelligence, improved corner and crossing mechanics and better spatial awareness during attacks. EA also says defending will feel more focused on the individual player in competitive modes.
Game Pass subscribers can access a 10 hour FC 27 trial
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members will be able to play EA Sports FC 27 before its standard release through the included EA Play membership.
The 10 hour trial begins on September 18, one week before the September 25 launch.
This trial should provide enough time to test the main gameplay changes, explore The Grounds and decide whether the full game is worth purchasing. Progress made during the trial will usually carry into the complete version when using the same account.
The trial does not include unlimited access. Once the 10 hour allowance is used, you will need to purchase the game or wait for any future addition to a subscription service.
September is developing into one of the busiest months of 2026 for Xbox. NBA 2K27, NHL 27 and EA Sports FC 27 will compete for attention alongside several non sports releases, giving players plenty of choice before the major November launch period begins.
