Minecraft Dungeons 2 is set to launch on September 29, 2026, for PC and current generation consoles, including Nintendo Switch 2. The date appeared early through a Nintendo eShop listing before its expected official reveal during Summer Game Fest 2026 or the Xbox Games Showcase.
The listing was spotted by Wario64 on X before the page was taken down. Early store pages are common around major gaming events, and Minecraft Dungeons 2 is now part of that growing list of games whose details surfaced before the planned announcement. Other titles also reportedly had release dates or reveal information appear early around the same showcase window.
Mojang and Double Eleven are both returning for the sequel. The game is expected to cost $29.99 in the United States, although Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will likely get access on day one. That would fit Microsoft’s usual approach with major first party and Minecraft related releases.
The sequel sends players across two worlds to stop a new threat
The removed eShop page still revealed part of the game’s description. Minecraft Dungeons 2 will ask players to drop the pickaxe, grab a sword, and set out on a new adventure through unexplored lands and mysterious locations. The campaign will focus on stopping a new evil that threatens not one world, but two.
That setup suggests the sequel may be larger in scope than the first Minecraft Dungeons. The original game took Minecraft’s blocky style and turned it into a dungeon crawling action RPG built around loot, co op play, mobs, bosses, and accessible combat. A two world structure could let Mojang and Double Eleven add more biome variety, enemy types, mission paths, and progression systems.

September 2026 is becoming a crowded month for game releases
Minecraft Dungeons 2 is also part of a larger release calendar pattern. Several publishers appear to be aiming for September or early October 2026, likely to avoid launching too close to Grand Theft Auto 6 later in the year. With that game expected to dominate attention, many publishers may be trying to release earlier rather than compete directly.

That creates its own problem. September 2026 is already looking busy, with several games either confirmed or rumored for that window. Launching before Grand Theft Auto 6 may seem safer, but if too many games crowd the same month, some could still struggle for attention.
For Minecraft Dungeons 2, the Minecraft brand gives it a strong advantage. The first game reached a broad audience because it was easier to understand than many traditional dungeon crawlers while still offering loot, combat, and replayable missions. A sequel with more worlds, more enemies, and likely stronger co op systems could appeal to both returning players and families looking for a more approachable action RPG.
The early listing does not answer every question. Mojang has not fully detailed new mechanics, multiplayer improvements, endgame content, character builds, or how the two world structure will work. Still, the September 29 date gives the game a clear place on the 2026 calendar.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 may not be the loudest release of the year, but it has the kind of familiar name, accessible design, and Game Pass reach that could make it one of the more widely played games of September 2026.
