Microsoft and Nvidia tease a “new era of PC” as N1X chip rumors grow

Microsoft and Nvidia have sparked fresh speculation about a major PC announcement after both companies posted the same “new era of PC” teaser online. The message appears to point toward Computex and Microsoft Build 2026, with many industry watchers now wondering whether Nvidia’s long rumored N1X chip is finally ready to be revealed.

The teaser is intentionally vague, but it includes a clue. Both Microsoft and Nvidia shared the numbers “25.0528” and “121.5990,” which match the latitude and longitude of the Taipei Music Center, the venue connected to Computex. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is scheduled to give a keynote at Computex on June 1, while Microsoft Build also begins next week.

Microsoft’s Pavan Davuluri, who leads Windows and Surface, also teased that something new is coming for developers, but he made one point clear: this is not a new Windows version. That likely rules out Windows 12, leaving hardware or silicon as the more likely focus.

Nvidia’s N1X could challenge the normal Intel and AMD PC formula

The biggest theory is that Microsoft and Nvidia are preparing to talk about Nvidia’s rumored N1 or N1X processor. Reports around the chip have circulated for years, with earlier leaks describing it as a powerful Arm based processor paired with RTX graphics.

If that is accurate, the N1X could be a serious attempt to bring Nvidia deeper into the Windows PC market. Today, most Windows laptops and desktops are built around Intel, AMD, or Qualcomm chips. Nvidia is already dominant in discrete graphics and AI hardware, but an Arm based PC processor with strong GPU performance would give it a more direct role in future Windows machines.

The Surface angle is also interesting. Windows Central notes that new Surface hardware could be coming soon, and Microsoft has already been expected to refresh parts of the Surface lineup in 2026. If Nvidia silicon is involved, it could make a future Surface device far more interesting than a standard business focused refresh.

That said, nothing is confirmed yet. The teaser does not name N1X, Surface, RTX, Arm, or any specific device. It only signals that Microsoft and Nvidia are preparing to say something important about PCs.

Still, the phrase “new era of PC” feels too large for a normal laptop announcement. If this is really about Nvidia entering the Windows PC processor space with a high performance Arm chip, it could become a major challenge to Intel and AMD’s long running position in premium PCs.

The timing also fits the wider industry shift. Microsoft has been pushing Arm based Windows PCs through Copilot Plus systems, while Qualcomm has been trying to make Snapdragon laptops more competitive. Nvidia entering that space with stronger graphics and AI performance could make the market much more competitive.

For now, the safest takeaway is that Microsoft and Nvidia are teasing something bigger than a routine software update. Whether it is the N1X chip, a new Surface device, or another PC hardware platform, the announcement could give Windows PCs a new direction at Computex and Build.
