Metal Gear Solid 4 Targets 4K at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X in Master Collection Vol. 2

Metal Gear Solid 4 will make its Xbox debut on August 27, 2026, as part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2.

The Xbox Series X version will target a 4K output at 60 FPS, while Xbox Series S will target 1440p at 60 FPS. Konami has clarified that these figures describe the maximum output resolution rather than a fixed internal rendering resolution.

The internal image may therefore run below 4K or 1440p in more demanding scenes before being reconstructed to the stated output. Even with that limitation, both Xbox consoles are expected to provide a substantial improvement over the original PlayStation 3 release.

Metal Gear Solid 4 will require approximately 26GB of storage when downloaded separately. The full collection also includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and additional content connected to the wider series.

Metal Gear Solid 4 receives its first official Xbox release

Metal Gear Solid 4 was originally released in 2008 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Its arrival in Master Collection Vol. 2 marks the first time the game will be officially playable on Xbox hardware.

The original version was closely tied to the PlayStation 3 architecture, which made later ports more difficult than those of many other games from the same period. Bringing it to modern systems gives Konami an opportunity to improve image quality, frame rate stability and compatibility with current displays.

The jump to 60 FPS should make movement, aiming and combat feel smoother than the original release. Higher resolution output should also improve environmental detail, character models and interface clarity.

The final image quality will still depend on the internal resolution and the reconstruction method used by the game. Konami’s wording means players should not assume that Xbox Series X will render every scene at native 4K.

Xbox Series S will use a lower 1440p output, but it retains the same 60 FPS target. That should provide a responsive experience while remaining suitable for both 1440p monitors and 4K televisions.

Peace Walker includes several presentation modes

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will use the same maximum output resolutions on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Konami has confirmed several display options for Peace Walker, including Original, Adjusted, High Resolution and Custom modes. Complete explanations for each setting have not yet been provided.

Original mode is likely to preserve more of the game’s initial presentation, while High Resolution should provide a cleaner image for modern screens. Adjusted mode may introduce presentation changes designed for current hardware, although this remains unconfirmed.

Custom mode should give players more control over the visual setup. The available options may involve resolution, aspect ratio, filtering or interface presentation, but Konami has not published the complete settings list.

Peace Walker began as a PlayStation Portable game, so its visual design differs significantly from Metal Gear Solid 4. The new modes could help preserve the original style while allowing players to improve clarity where desired.

The collection includes additional Metal Gear content

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is priced at £44.98 in the UK and $49.99 in the United States.

The package includes Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and bonus material. One of the additional games is Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the handheld entry originally released in 2000.

Konami is also expected to sell the two main games separately after launch. This has not been fully detailed, so players interested only in Metal Gear Solid 4 may prefer to wait for confirmation before buying the complete package.

The current Xbox Store listing does not identify the collection as an Xbox Play Anywhere release. A purchase therefore should not be assumed to include a Windows PC version or shared progression across Xbox and PC.

Metal Gear Solid 4 running at up to 4K and 60 FPS on Xbox Series X could make this the strongest console version of the game so far. Xbox Series S receives a lower resolution target, but its support for 60 FPS should preserve the most important performance improvement.
