MediaTek has expanded its midrange portfolio with the launch of the Dimensity 7100, a new 5G chipset designed for upcoming affordable smartphones that focus on efficiency, camera upgrades, and smoother everyday performance.
The Dimensity 7100 appears on MediaTek’s official product listings, signaling a quiet but strategic rollout aimed at phone makers preparing early-2026 midrange devices.
Built on 6 nm for balanced performance
MediaTek builds the Dimensity 7100 on a 6 nm process, targeting lower power consumption without sacrificing responsiveness. The chip uses an octa-core CPU layout with four Arm Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked up to 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores reaching 2.0 GHz.
This setup positions the chipset for sustained multitasking, social apps, and gaming workloads common in the midrange segment.
Mali-G610 graphics and faster memory
The chipset integrates an Arm Mali-G610 GPU, which MediaTek positions as a step up from the previous Dimensity 7000-series graphics. Early specifications suggest modest gains in GPU performance and improved thermal behavior during longer gaming sessions.
Dimensity 7100 supports LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, enabling faster app loading and smoother system animations on supported devices.
High-resolution cameras and 120 Hz displays
MediaTek continues to push imaging features into the midrange. Dimensity 7100 supports camera sensors up to 200 MP and advanced image processing features typically reserved for higher tiers.
On the display side, the chip supports Full HD+ panels with refresh rates up to 120 Hz and 10-bit color, allowing manufacturers to deliver smoother scrolling and richer visuals.
Integrated 5G with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4
Connectivity remains a key focus. The Dimensity 7100 includes an integrated 5G modem based on 3GPP Release 16, with peak download speeds around 3.3 Gbps. MediaTek also adds Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 support to meet current connectivity standards.
The company highlights its UltraSave power-saving technologies, which aim to reduce battery drain during extended 5G usage.
Positioned for 2026 midrange phones
MediaTek targets the Dimensity 7100 squarely at the next wave of midrange 5G smartphones. The chipset balances performance, efficiency, and modern features rather than chasing flagship-level benchmarks.
Manufacturers have not officially announced devices yet, but early reports point to several affordable phones launching in early 2026 with the Dimensity 7100 at their core.
As more phones arrive, real-world testing will show how the Dimensity 7100 stacks up against rivals in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7-series and MediaTek’s own higher-end Dimensity lineup.
