Marvel’s Wolverine has received its first post launch update, and one of the biggest changes targets the game’s scent tracking effects. The update reduces the opacity of Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, making them less visually aggressive during exploration.
The feature is tied to Logan’s heightened senses and helps guide players toward important locations, objectives, and collectibles. However, the presentation attracted criticism because the effect could dominate the screen and make exploration feel heavily guided.
The latest update, version 01.001.005, attempts to address that issue without removing the system entirely. The visuals remain part of the game, but they should now appear less intense.
Marvel’s Wolverine update changes
| Area | Change |
|---|---|
| Scent Trails | Reduced opacity |
| Audio Sense indicators | Reduced visual intensity |
| Stability | Additional crash fixes |
| Future accessibility | Toggleable options are being explored |
| Platform | PlayStation 5 |
The adjustment follows discussion around how much guidance the game provides during missions. Some players felt the scent effect was too prominent, particularly because Marvel’s Wolverine uses a relatively guided level structure in many sections.
The scent system highlights Logan’s tracking abilities and is active when his heightened senses are relevant to a mission. It can also appear when he detects nearby collectibles. The criticism focused less on the existence of the mechanic and more on how strongly it was presented on screen.
At launch, players could not completely disable the feature and explore those sections without the visual guidance. That limitation made the system more noticeable for people who prefer minimal interface elements.

The developer has now confirmed that further changes are being considered. Toggleable options are being explored for a future update, which could eventually give you more control over whether the guidance appears at all.
First update also addresses crashes
The visual changes are the main focus of the new hotfix, but the update also contains stability improvements. Crash fixes have been included for affected players, although the available details do not indicate that the patch is a major technical overhaul.
This makes version 01.001.005 a relatively focused update. It responds to one of the more visible complaints around the game while also fixing some early stability problems.
Reducing the opacity is a smaller change than adding a full on or off option, but it should make the effect less distracting in its current form. Players who want a cleaner screen may still have to wait for a later update before they receive more control.
Marvel’s Wolverine is currently available exclusively on PlayStation 5. The developer has indicated that work on the sense system will continue, so the current implementation may not be final.
