HP OmniBook 5 14 Launches at $699 With Intel Wildcat Lake and OLED Display

HP has introduced the OmniBook 5 14, a new thin and light laptop built around Intel's Wildcat Lake processors. Pricing starts at $699.99 in the United States, with the base model offering a Core 5 315 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD.

One of the more notable features is the display. HP is using an OLED panel across the OmniBook 5 14 lineup rather than limiting OLED to more expensive configurations.

The entry model comes with a 14 inch 1920 by 1200 OLED display rated for up to 300 nits of brightness. A touchscreen option will also be available at launch.

HP plans to introduce a higher resolution 2560 by 1600 OLED panel in March 2027. That version will increase peak brightness to 400 nits.

OmniBook 5 14 Targets the Affordable Thin Laptop Market

The starting configuration clearly focuses on keeping the entry price relatively low. Buyers can move up to higher specifications if they need more performance or storage.

Top configurations will offer an Intel Core 7 350 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM and as much as 1 TB of SSD storage.

Connectivity includes two USB C ports capable of speeds up to 10 Gbps. HP has also kept an HDMI connection and a 3.5 mm audio jack, which gives the laptop a broader selection of ports than some very thin notebooks.

A 1080p webcam and dual speakers are included across the range.

HP says the OmniBook 5 14 starts at 2.56 pounds, or roughly 1.16 kg, while the chassis measures as little as 11.7 mm thick. That puts the machine firmly in the thin and light category and makes portability one of its main selling points.

The laptop will be sold in silver, pink, blue and green finishes, giving buyers more visual choice than the usual silver and black options found on many productivity notebooks.

Wildcat Lake Moves Into More Affordable Systems

Intel's Wildcat Lake platform is beginning to appear in a broader range of systems, and the OmniBook 5 14 represents one of the more affordable implementations.

The $699.99 starting price positions it against entry level premium laptops where battery life, portability and display quality are often just as important as raw processor performance.

The decision to include OLED as standard could help the OmniBook stand out in that segment. Many similarly priced laptops still use conventional LCD panels, while OLED is often reserved for higher tier configurations.

HP is also preparing a business focused model called the ProBook 4 G2iS. That system will use Wildcat Lake processors as well, with configurations starting at 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. It is expected to measure around 12 mm thick and is currently planned for release in December.

The OmniBook 5 14 is scheduled to arrive during October. Initial configurations listed in the United States include models with 8 GB of memory and either 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, although availability may vary depending on color and specification.

For buyers looking for a lightweight Windows laptop, the combination of OLED, Intel's newer processors and a relatively accessible starting price makes the OmniBook 5 14 one of HP's more interesting mainstream releases this year.
