I wonder how to get rid of Windows 10 and its low level ties with the BIOS. When I try to boot up to anything but Windows from a usb stick or a cd, then the internal harddrive isn’t visible and same goes for the cd-drive. How to break this annoying bond and install a properly configurable OS instead?

I had windows 10 installed just over a year ago. Recently my start button along with other apps stopped working. I tried everything available online to rectify the fault including re-installing windows 10, unfortunately nothing seems get rid of the problem.I am taking this drastic action by getting rid of the windows 10 altogether and install new OS.

Hahaha. Fun guide. I wonder what Microsoft thinks about it. 🙂

    Very common
    – W10 pre-installed and have no installation media
    – New computer with OS pre-installed
    – Want to use old boot drive as data drive with existing data but no OS
The technique you note doesn’t cover this and my guess is that it is very common. I guess you could copy everything “somewhere” then re-format old boot drive but what a pain that would be.

If you’re installing another OS in the partition you don’t need to format it. The installation process will do that for you.
