Cricut Design Space is the software you use to create, edit, and send designs to your Cricut cutting machine. It is free to download and runs directly on Windows 11 without any compatibility issues. The installation takes around five minutes depending on your internet speed.
What You Need Before Starting
Your Windows 11 PC needs to meet the following minimum requirements for Design Space to run smoothly.
Your processor should be a dual-core or equivalent. You need at least 4GB of RAM and 2GB of free disk space. Your display should support a minimum resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. A Bluetooth connection or available USB port is required to connect your Cricut machine. A broadband internet connection is needed for downloading the software and for accessing the online design library.
Windows 11 meets all of these requirements on any modern PC, so compatibility is not a concern if you are running a standard Windows 11 installation.
You also need a Cricut account to sign in after installation. If you do not have one, you can create one for free during the setup process.
Step 1: Go to the Official Cricut Website
Open any browser on your Windows 11 PC and go to design.cricut.com. This is Cricut's official download page for Design Space.

Only download from this address. Third-party sites offering Cricut Design Space downloads are not endorsed by Cricut and may bundle unwanted software.
Step 2: Accept the Terms and Download
On the download page, tick the checkbox next to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. The Download button becomes active once you check the box.
Click Download. Your browser begins downloading the installer file. It saves to your Downloads folder by default. The file is typically named something like CricutDesignSpace.exe and is around 50MB in size.
Step 3: Run the Installer
Open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer file. If Windows shows a User Account Control prompt asking whether you want to allow the app to make changes to your device, click Yes.
The installer opens and begins downloading the remaining installation files. This portion requires an active internet connection and takes two to five minutes depending on your connection speed. A progress bar shows the installation status.
Do not close the installer while it is running.
Step 4: Launch Design Space
Once installation completes, Cricut Design Space opens automatically. If it does not open, find it in the Start menu by searching for Cricut Design Space and clicking the app icon.
Step 5: Sign In or Create an Account
The app opens to a sign-in screen.
If you already have a Cricut account, enter your email and password and click Sign In.
If you are new to Cricut, click Create Account and follow the prompts. You will need to enter your name, email address, and create a password. Account creation is free and takes under two minutes.
Step 6: Connect Your Cricut Machine
After signing in, Design Space prompts you to set up or connect your machine.
Via USB. Plug the USB cable into your Cricut machine and into a USB port on your PC. Design Space detects the machine automatically within a few seconds.
Via Bluetooth. Turn on your Cricut machine and make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your PC. In Windows 11, go to Settings, Bluetooth and Devices, and turn Bluetooth on. Pair the Cricut machine from the list of available devices. Once paired, Design Space recognises it when you open the app.
After connecting, Design Space may prompt you to update the machine's firmware. Install any available update before starting your first project.
What to Do if the Installation Fails
If the installer encounters an error, the most common fixes are straightforward.
Temporarily disable your antivirus software before running the installer. Security software occasionally blocks legitimate application installers from completing. Re-enable it once installation finishes.
Check your internet connection. Design Space downloads components during installation and requires a stable connection throughout. If your connection dropped mid-install, restart the installer.
Restart your PC and run the installer again. A fresh restart clears any background processes that may have interfered with the installation.
If problems persist, visit Cricut's official help centre at help.cricut.com for platform-specific troubleshooting guides.
