How to build Focus while gliding in LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight

In LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, you can build Focus while moving around Gotham City, but only after unlocking the right skill first. If you are trying to gain Focus during traversal and nothing is happening, the reason is simple: the technique is not available from the start of the game. You need the Focused Maneuvers skill before the glide based Focus loop works.

Focus is important because it lets you use powerful moves such as Takedowns and other special techniques. Normally, you build it during combat, but Focused Maneuvers gives you a way to prepare before a fight begins. This can make a big difference when you are heading into a mission, clearing Gotham City activities, or preparing to face stronger enemies.

You need to unlock Focused Maneuvers from the Exploration skill tree first

Focused Maneuvers is found in the Exploration branch of the shared skill tree. It is not available right away because many skill nodes are locked behind story progress. You need to reach Chapter 3 before the part of the Exploration tree containing this skill becomes available. Once it appears, you can unlock Focused Maneuvers by spending 1 Skill Brick.

This is different from gadget upgrades, which are handled through Workbenches in the Batcave. Gadget upgrades are tied to specific characters, while skill tree upgrades are shared. That makes Focused Maneuvers useful across traversal because it improves how you move through Gotham and gives you a way to start fights with Focus already built.

After unlocking the skill, the process is simple. While exploring Gotham, target a ledge with the Grappling Hook. Before your character reaches the ledge or anchor point, press the jump button. This cancels into a launch, sending your character past the ledge and into a glide. With Focused Maneuvers unlocked, this move gives you around one quarter of a full Focus Bar.

StepWhat to do
1Reach Chapter 3 to open the right part of the Exploration skill tree
2Spend 1 Skill Brick on Focused Maneuvers
3Use the Grappling Hook on a ledge while moving through Gotham
4Press jump before reaching the ledge
5Glide after the boost to gain Focus

The best part is that this move can be repeated. You can grapple, cancel into a glide, target another ledge, and do it again without touching the ground. Since each successful loop gives about a quarter of the Focus Bar, repeating it a few times can fill the bar quickly.

This gives Batman a clear advantage before combat starts. You can enter a fight with Focus ready, then use Takedowns or stronger abilities such as Focus Bat Swarm right away. That means tougher enemies can be dealt with before they have time to pressure you.

The main thing to remember is that the glide trick is skill dependent. If it does not work, check whether you have reached Chapter 3 and purchased Focused Maneuvers. Once unlocked, it becomes one of the most useful traversal tricks in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight because it turns normal movement around Gotham into a way to prepare for combat.
