Helldivers 3 Is Not Planned as Arrowhead Focuses on Expanding Helldivers 2

Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed that Helldivers 3 is not currently part of its development plans, with the company prioritizing continued support for Helldivers 2.

Chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt explained that the studio sees greater value in expanding its existing multiplayer shooter rather than introducing a sequel that would require players to restart their progress.

According to Pilestedt, approximately 95% of Arrowhead's development team remains focused on Helldivers 2, despite the company already working on another project.

His comments suggest that the studio intends to support the game for the foreseeable future, provided its community remains active.

Arrowhead Says Helldivers 3 Would Need Significant Gameplay Changes

Pilestedt believes a sequel should introduce substantial improvements rather than simply replace an existing game.

He argued that releasing Helldivers 3 without meaningful differences could divide the community and force returning players to abandon their existing progress.

Instead, Arrowhead wants Helldivers 2 to become a long term gaming experience that players can continue enjoying through updates and community participation.

Pilestedt compared this approach to established entertainment franchises such as LEGO and Warhammer, which maintain audience interest through continuous development rather than frequent replacements.

The studio believes its community plays an essential role in keeping the game relevant.

Players regularly introduce friends, create content, and participate in cooperative activities, helping maintain engagement beyond major updates.

This ongoing participation reduces the immediate need for another installment.

Most Arrowhead Developers Are Still Working on Helldivers 2

Although Arrowhead has confirmed that another project is in development, Pilestedt clarified that it is not Helldivers 3.

With roughly 95% of employees continuing to work on Helldivers 2, the studio's current priority remains improving its existing game.

A recent update introduced additional balancing adjustments, bug fixes, and changes to the game's anti cheat systems.

These improvements demonstrate Arrowhead's continued investment in maintaining gameplay stability and addressing community feedback.

However, the studio has not disclosed significant details about its separate project.

Helldivers 3 Could Still Happen in the Future

Pilestedt has not completely ruled out developing another Helldivers installment.

A sequel could become worthwhile if Arrowhead develops ideas that significantly change the experience while allowing both games to coexist.

For now, no development schedule, announcement window, or release date has been provided for Helldivers 3.

The company's immediate plans remain focused on expanding Helldivers 2 and supporting its existing multiplayer community.
