Arrowhead Game Studios is preparing several major updates for Helldivers 2 as it tries to recover player confidence after months of frustration. The co op shooter has remained popular since its 2024 launch, but recent updates, bugs, weak endgame progression, and disappointing Galactic War events have pushed some players away. Now, the studio says it has a clearer plan to improve the game’s long term structure, rewards, and overall feel.

The biggest change is the arrival of Galactic War Campaigns in June. Arrowhead describes these as the next evolution of Major Orders. Instead of short objectives that can sometimes feel disconnected, Galactic War Campaigns will run for roughly one to three weeks and are meant to make the wider war easier to follow.

The goal is to give players a clearer sense of what is happening, what is at stake, how the campaign is progressing, and what the outcome means. That should help Helldivers 2 feel more like an ongoing war story rather than a series of temporary community tasks.

Successful Galactic War Campaigns will also bring better rewards. Arrowhead says players can expect rewards ranging from gameplay altering effects to useful items. After the first campaign is completed, the studio plans to release a new type of Fast Recon Vehicle. That gives the wider community a stronger reason to care about the outcome of each campaign.

The studio is also replacing Personal Orders with Personal Campaign Progression. This is important because even if the community fails a larger campaign, individual players will still have their own reward track. That should make participation feel more worthwhile and reduce the feeling that personal effort was wasted because the whole player base missed the target.

Planet Warfronts are planned for a later update. These will add more strategy to how players liberate or defend planets. Different operation types, such as Defend, Frontline War, and Behind Enemy Lines, will contribute to different objectives. Success or failure will then create unique consequences. If handled well, this could make planets feel less interchangeable and give the Galactic War more tactical identity.

Ship modules are also being reworked. Instead of a flat upgrade path, players will have more choice over strong buffs that better fit their playstyle. Arrowhead is also planning to add new ships with their own strengths, weaknesses, and modules. That is a surprisingly big change because the Super Destroyer has been central to Helldivers 2 since launch. New ship options could give players a stronger sense of ownership and long term progression.

The quality of life fixes may be just as important as the new systems. Arrowhead is working on team assisted reload changes so the mechanic can work regardless of which player is carrying the ammunition backpack. The studio is also targeting long standing frustrations such as bouncing stratagem beacons and unresponsive hellpod steering.

Those fixes matter because Helldivers 2 depends heavily on moment to moment reliability. A turret call in bouncing away from the intended spot or a hellpod refusing to steer properly can turn a funny chaotic moment into genuine irritation. Fixing those problems will make the game feel fairer without removing its unpredictable nature.

The level cap is also increasing to 300, giving long term players more room to progress. That will not solve every endgame issue by itself, but it helps create a stronger sense that continued play is being recognized.

This roadmap comes after a rough period for the game’s Steam reception. Helldivers 2 recently fell to Mostly Negative before recovering to Mixed, showing how serious the player frustration had become. Arrowhead clearly knows that small balance tweaks will not be enough. The game needs stronger progression, better rewards, clearer war goals, and fewer daily annoyances.

Helldivers 2 still has a strong foundation. Its combat, co op chaos, enemy variety, and cinematic battlefield moments remain some of the best parts of the game. The problem has been keeping players engaged after the initial excitement fades. These updates appear designed to solve exactly that.

If Galactic War Campaigns make the community war feel more meaningful, if new rewards are worth chasing, and if the quality of life fixes land properly, Helldivers 2 could regain momentum. Arrowhead now has to prove that its plan is not only ambitious on paper, but strong enough to bring frustrated players back into the fight.
