Five More Games Have Quietly Joined Xbox Game Pass Essential

Xbox Game Pass Essential has added five more games without a formal announcement, expanding the lowest priced Game Pass tier with a mix of classic adventure games, turn based RPGs, and tactical cyberpunk titles.

The latest additions include Full Throttle Remastered, Costume Quest 2, and the complete Shadowrun Trilogy. Four of the games appeared on July 1, while Full Throttle Remastered joined the library in mid June.

Xbox Game Pass Essential is the entry level Game Pass tier, focused on online multiplayer, a smaller rotating game library, and member benefits. Microsoft has made several quiet additions to the service in recent months, but these new games are among the more notable ones because they include complete collections rather than individual smaller releases.

Full Throttle Remastered is a revived version of the 1995 LucasArts adventure game. It follows biker Ben as he becomes caught in a conspiracy involving a motorcycle manufacturer. The game keeps its original humour and style while updating the visuals and interface for modern platforms.

Costume Quest 2 is another older but welcome addition. The game uses turn based combat, but keeps things simple and approachable. It is best suited to players who want a relaxed RPG with colourful characters, seasonal themes, and a shorter campaign.

Shadowrun Trilogy adds three tactical RPGs

The biggest part of this update is the addition of all three Shadowrun games. Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong combine cyberpunk technology with fantasy creatures, magic, corporations, hackers, and tactical combat.

The games are not especially modern in presentation, but they remain popular for their writing, atmosphere, and distinctive setting. Dragonfall is often seen as the strongest entry because of its characters, world building, and campaign structure.

However, Xbox players should be aware that some reports have raised concerns about the console versions. A few players have claimed that the games may have issues launching or saving correctly in certain language regions. These reports are not universal, but anyone facing problems may want to try changing their console language settings or wait for future updates.

Microsoft continues to expand Essential quietly

It is unclear why Xbox has not promoted these additions more openly. The company previously added nine games to Game Pass Essential in May without a major announcement, and these five titles appeared in a similar way.

The quiet rollout may make it harder for subscribers to know what is available in the tier, especially compared with the larger announcements for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Still, the new additions improve the Essential library with a useful variety of games. Full Throttle Remastered offers a classic adventure, Costume Quest 2 provides a lighter RPG option, and the Shadowrun Trilogy gives tactical RPG fans three longer games to work through.

For Essential subscribers looking for something different from the usual multiplayer focused Game Pass selection, these five additions are worth checking out.
