Final Fantasy Resonance has received a new gameplay trailer that offers a closer look at its HD 2D visual style, turn based battles, explorable towns, and traditional world map.

The footage presents a game that draws heavily from the older Final Fantasy titles while using modern lighting, animation, and environmental effects. Characters are represented through detailed pixel art, while locations use three dimensional backgrounds to create greater depth and scale.

Several scenes show the party travelling through towns, speaking with other characters, and exploring a large world map. This structure recalls entries released during the NES, Super Nintendo, and original PlayStation eras, when players moved between settlements, dungeons, and major locations from an overhead map.

The trailer also includes new combat footage. Battles use a turn based system rather than the real time action found in several recent mainline Final Fantasy games. Party members select commands, use abilities, and fight familiar creatures while the camera shifts between cinematic angles.

Past Final Fantasy heroes will return through the Vision system

One of the game’s central mechanics allows the main characters to call upon the spirits of heroes from earlier Final Fantasy adventures.

These figures, known as Visions, can appear during battle and perform powerful attacks. The trailer includes the Onion Knight from Final Fantasy III, who arrives during a large combat sequence and unleashes a special ability against an enemy.

The system appears to be more than a visual reference. Past heroes may provide different attacks, support skills, or tactical benefits depending on which Vision is equipped or summoned.

HD 2D graphics give the characters a more expressive appearance

The game combines animated character sprites with three dimensional backgrounds, a visual approach that has become increasingly common in modern role playing games.

In Final Fantasy Resonance, the pixel characters use exaggerated facial expressions and body movements to communicate emotion. The environments include dynamic lighting, reflections, weather effects, and detailed architecture, giving the scenes a modern appearance without abandoning the visual identity of older role playing games.

Final Fantasy Resonance follows Rain, a young knight who must protect the Kingdom of Grandshelt from a growing threat. He will form a party of allies and use the power of past Final Fantasy heroes during his journey.

The game is scheduled to launch on October 22, 2026. It will be available on Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam. The standard edition is priced at $49.99.
