Fallout 76 Finally Gets Native Xbox Series X|S Support With The Slasher Update

Fallout 76 has received one of its most important technical upgrades in years, with native Xbox Series X|S support now available as part of The Slasher update.

The update allows the game to make better use of current generation console hardware, with support for up to 4K resolution and 60 FPS on compatible displays. PlayStation 5 is also included in the current generation upgrade.

For Xbox players, this is a major change because Fallout 76 originally launched in 2018 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The Xbox Series X|S arrived two years later, but the game continued to rely on its older console version rather than receiving a fully native release.

The Slasher update changes that while also adding a new questline, seasonal content, crafting improvements, and numerous fixes.

The new questline focuses on tracking down a serial killer known as The Slasher. It brings a horror theme to the game and arrives alongside Season 26, called Beware the Blood Moon.

Season 26 introduces Halloween themed rewards for players progressing through its seasonal content.

Another notable addition is Legacy Seasons. This system allows an older season to return alongside the current one, giving players another opportunity to earn content they may have missed originally.

The first returning season is Armor Ace and the Power Patrol in Cold Steel. It will remain available for the duration of Season 26.

Legendary crafting gets more flexible

Weapon and armor customization has also been expanded.

Unique weapons and armor can now have their Legendary Mods changed. Players can also add a fourth Legendary Mod to eligible equipment, providing more room to adjust specialized builds.

That change could be particularly useful for long term players who already have unique equipment but want more freedom over its bonuses.

Fishing content is expanding as well. New seasonal fish are scheduled to appear on September 22. Players can visit Captain Raymond for information that helps locate them.

The update also includes a wider collection of bug fixes and balance adjustments covering different areas of the game.

Native current generation support is still the most significant technical addition. Fallout 76 has continued receiving major updates since its difficult 2018 launch, but Xbox Series X|S players have spent much of the current console generation without a version designed specifically for their hardware.

Running at up to 60 FPS should make movement, combat, and exploration feel smoother, while 4K support can provide a sharper image on suitable displays.

Combined with the new questline, refreshed seasonal structure, crafting changes, and continued content updates, The Slasher represents a substantial update for a game that is now eight years old.
